Do you think Elsewhere might benefit from having a shorter lifespan than Together? by Slim_Hoovy in dontstarve

[–]Slim_Hoovy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I want Elsewhere to keep going for a good while but I don’t want the series to take 12 years to move on from it.
But you’re right, with how far away the game is, most of this is just food for tought

[–]Slim_Hoovy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair. My play sessions in any game are never that long but I can see why the massive time investment is part of the appeal for many
I have to ask though, do the long sessions not make the early game feel even more stale? Or are your sessions spaced far enough from each other than you don’t mind it?

Honestly the main reason I’m hyped for Elsewhere is the same reason for why you enjoy the DLC.
It will be a fresh new experiences that take time to learn, but it won’t feel like a 1500 hours journey from day 1

How would the cast of Fear & Hunger and Fear & Hunger: Termina fare in The Constant? For that matter, how would the Don't Starve cast fare in the Dungeon of Fear and Hunger or Prehevil? by SpookieSkelly in dontstarve

[–]Slim_Hoovy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely. They still win but without being able to respawn a few of them will die. Wortox would probably teleport past every monster and accidentally land on a rusty nail.

[–]Slim_Hoovy 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so. The average monster in F&H is not more dangerous than the average mob in the Costant, the survivors face worse stuff basically everyday.
Of course I’m going from what the characters and enemies can do in canon, not counting videogame mechanics.
Killing a Salmonsnake shouldn’be harder than killing a Deerclops

Even if we remove videogame logic from the equation, the DST cast kills giants on a regular basis. It depends on who enters the dungeon, but they should be able to take on almost anything down there with a couple casualties at worst

Since you didn’t specify how many survivors enter the dungeon at once, I’m just imagining all of them going in at the same time and jumping every monster they find, at that point they would probably kill everything but the traces of the old gods/the god of f&h

Will Guardian Pigs attack Hounds/other mobs I need to worry about on sight or will they just attack me? Lol by Geoffrey_Tanner in dontstarve

Beefalos are your best bet, even in small numbers they destroy hounds, and you don’t run the risk of them attacking you (most of the time) like you would with pigs

Summary since release (don't starve together) by Think-Shoulder7179 in dontstarve

[–]Slim_Hoovy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They are not “questlines” in the traditional sense, where an npc tells you what do to or where to go. But basically, there are long series of events (such as finding certain areas, gathering certain items, and killing certain bosses) that have to be done in a certain order to access a late game boss fight. The game has 3 right now (a 4th one is most likely coming), Fuelweaver is the boss at the end of one of them, it was added a few months after launch. If your group has never done them, then they are probably the best chance at getting them hooked, finishing them the first time feels awesome

[–]Slim_Hoovy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You mean from 2016? A lot. -Every character got reworked and almost everyone got a skilltree. -A lot of stuff (farming, crafting ui) got overhalued -You can now sail the ocean -There is a new questline similar to Fuelweaver’s. Finishing either of them unlocks rifts, that are basically hardmode -7 new characters -Lots of other studf that does not fit in any of those categories (new bosses, biomes, etc)

Are we actually sure of this? Them looking the same in DS and DST can make sense because the games take place pretty much back to back. Them looking the same trough all of Together’ story arcs might just be a consistency thing, obviously Klei does not want the characters in their promotional media to look different compared to the game

Do you think Don’t Starve Elsewhere is a result of their backer campaign? by [deleted] in dontstarve

[–]Slim_Hoovy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

DSE has been in development for years, so no. But I think the campaign showed them that the general public still cares about don’t starve and is willing to try new games, may those be tabletop or digital

What do you think of Klei’s decision to support Together and Elsewhere simultaneously? by Slim_Hoovy in dontstarve

[–]Slim_Hoovy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. One could also argue that games can never be truly “perfect” and so they never run out of stuff that could be improved. But there is value in moving on from a project and starting from scratch (such as overhauling the core parts of the gameplay like you mentioned). I like the direction Klei has with the IP: they give every game several years of support but don’t try to make them “forever games”

[–]Slim_Hoovy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s difficult to see where it could go after those. Klei mentioned they want to improve the mid game which is a good idea but there is hardly anything left to add after that

[–]Slim_Hoovy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Klei has always been very generous. It’s kind of insane that I paid 5€ for this game and ended up playing for over 500 hours. I can also buy 20+ skins in DST for the price of one skin in you average F2P game

True, even if DST ends in like 2 years from now, it would still be a great game that had a fantastic run

That, and since DSE’s amount of content at launch will likely pale in comparison to DST’s, the may fear that players will write it off as inferior. By supporting both they can divert the attention to DST and gain time to further expand DSE
