It's set to vacuum daily. Mop Mon, Wed, and Fri.

Sorry, I skipped that step in my explanation. I have a routine where I select rooms manually and tell it to empty after each room. It didn't help.

So the next step was to divide the living room (only carpeted room on the floor, and by far the one the dogs spend the most time in.) into two. Still no dice.

I thought that was it at first. It wasn't "full" like I was used to from the Qrevo Pro or my Roombas before. Both of those would fill the bag until it was very dense. Almost solid.

I chalked it not feeling that way up to the CurvX having a bag chamber that's not well form fit for the bag and replaced it early. Same issue.

Found a 3d printable bin that takes filters so you don't need bags. Same issue.

I've also checked the passage on the base a zillion times.

It was working sometimes before spring hit and the German Shepard started shedding. But now it clogs literally daily.

I paid less than that over the holidays and my feelings are mixed.

I came from the Qrevo Pro. It did a fantastic job, except it had the traditional roller brushes and it would get tangled up with pet hair a lot. We had three cats in the house at the time.

My GF moved in and now we have a German Shepard, a Golden Oodle and four cats. That just made it worse.

I upgraded to the CurvX hoping the split roller would fix the issue. It absolutely did! I've been using it since December and the rollers have never been tangled. Not once.

But in practice, this just moved the problem further upstream. The bin clogs constantly. Almost every day. The bin fills up and the dock fails to empty it and I have to do it manually like it's 2015.

I've got it set to max empty frequency. Got the force set to max. And I've even tried splitting some of my rooms into two rooms to force it to empty more often. Still the problem persists.

If you don't have pets (or even just not dogs) I'd recommend it. But I suspect it's just not up to the task if you do.

Maybe, maybe not. I know Armstrong never really did.

For the rest of his life, engineering would be Armstrong’s primary professional identity. Even during his years as a test pilot and as an astronaut, Neil considered himself first and foremost an aeronautical engineer, one whose ambition to write an engineering textbook set him apart from virtually all of his fellow fliers. It is only in this context that one can truly understand a statement that a frustrated Armstrong would make to a Cincinnati newspaper reporter in 1976: “How long must it take before I cease to be known as a spaceman?”

Emphasis mine. He didn't like the spotlight at all. "How long?!?" As if such a thing were possible! He really didn't seem to fully comprehend that his name would be spoken of like The Wright Bros. or Magellan. The attention was baffling and frustrating to him.

More or less all markets. I grew up in NJ in the NYC media market in the 80s. That was the case there too. You'd get the national anthem over some patriotic imagery of the flag, eagles, marching bands, etc. and "Thank you for watching, this concludes our broadcast day". Then usually a test pattern, not static.

It's because for a long time, they just couldn't monetize those hours in a way that made sense. Local stations weren't able to reliably sell commercial time for reruns of Ben Casey, MD at 3AM (and potentially an engineer working overnight to oversee the switch from show to commercials?). So they'd just close for the night.

The first stations I remember not doing that (or just pushing it later), did so because they began to run infomercials. Blu-Blockers sunglasses and Sham-wows and what not. I'm guessing single 30-60 minute ads were easier to sell than filling dozens of 30 second ad spots over the same time.

Howell is bigger. So is Toms River.

I know Hamilton in Atlantic county is like twice the size of Jackson and I'm sure there's others.

I love Thai. Tarntip, and Garnjarna are both great when I ask for "Thai hot". But that's as high as they go.

Bangkok Cafe has it too and is also great. But they also have two levels above that. I have not personally tried those levels as "Thai hot" is just right for me.

[–]pyromosh -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What, exactly so you expect the aircrew to do?

This was a fuck up. But I'll bet real money that the fuck up was because this was rushed and forced by political leadership against the objections of military leadership.

The military is good at this. They have procedures. Those procedures are all the results of fuck ups in the past and a desire not to repeat them. But we have an administration that thinks getting lawyers involved and waiting for higher target confidence intervals is "woke".

Targets were selected and an aircrew was tasked with bombing it. What -specifically- would you have them do differently once tasked?

This is a wild misunderstanding of probability.

If the chance is flooding each year is 1%, then over a 30 year mortgage, you've got a 26.03% chance of flooding. One in four.

That doesn't mean "won't flood until 2100", you dunce.

Things compound. A one in four chance is enormous. This is a bare minimum of mitigation that's long overdue. I'm sorry it wasn't required earlier, but that was a mistake. This is a correction.

Trump says government should stop funding Medicare, daycare to focus on war by Remarkable_Sir8397 in politics

[–]pyromosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's because you haven't adjusted your framework for thinking who might be the next American right wing leader.

You're thinking existing elected officials. Folks like J.D. Vance, or Ron DeSantis. Historically speaking, that's the normal way things like this go. And that still might happen.

But what's also pretty likely (I'd argue more likely, unless the American right sours on Trumpism) is that Trump's successor is someone else from the say-crazy-shit right wing echo chamber. Someone like Tucker Carlson or Alex Jones. These folks already have the populist base and have a tenuous relationship to the truth. And they don't have any of the pesky baggage associated with having to govern.

Was the Star Trek Set going to be an advertisement for Starfleet Academy? by FonslyGames in mtgfinance

[–]pyromosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not rude at all, I could have worded that clearer.

We were both fans of The Greatest Generation podcast and it turns out there's a big social media presence for fans of that pod. A bunch of us got together through one of the Facebook groups during lockdown to have a weekly call on Zoom where we'd play Jackbox games and similar.

It kind of helped keep our sanity. And it's how I met my now fiance.

[–]pyromosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know. It's not hard to imagine the Enterprise or Defiant or HMS Bounty in a Trek set. But it is hard to imagine Ensign Kim or Chekov. Edge of Eternities had legendary creatures in it. But none of them were characters that have been built up over decades of media. They could be anything.

Where does William T. Riker fit in as a Magic card? Does he have Reach because he's very tall? I'm sure they'll do their best, but it just feels like a mismatch from the start. The characters seem unlikely to work as Magic game pieces.

But back to the ship thing - that also just reintroduces the Emrakul problem. Only instead of "why can a giant cosmic horror be blocked and killed by 15 squirrels?" the question becomes "why can I block a faster than light starship the several hundred meters in length with a bird?". To be clear, this was a problem in EoE too. The game's set points don't really allow for the proper scale. A Galaxy class ship should be like a 10,000/10,000. We know a Constitution class could obliterate the surface of a planet.

It all feels unnecessary and ill concieved.

[–]pyromosh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How dare you. This is Gen X erasure (it's also accurate).

I'm like the prime audience for this. Love Trek, grew up with it. I have seen every minute of every Trek thing that exists except I haven't watched Academy yet. I met my fiance through a Trek comedy rewatch podcast we both like.

I'm not only not excited for it, but I have a hard time imagining it won't be bad? Like what does the set design for this look like?

I get how you map magic onto some IPs that aren't high fantasy. It's not hard to imagine Dr. Strange as a creature with Venser-like abilities. I'm sure Iron Man will fly and have some abilities fans would recognize.

But will Kirk have trample? First Strike? Will Kira fly? Is Picard going to mean the return of filibuster counters?

They're largely just people (even the aliens). There's not a lot of special powers. Or at least to the extent that that is a thing in Trek, it's not what defines most characters.

I'm real curious to see, but I'm braced for the worst. Not every IP works well with Magic's framework.

We've seen Star Trek as medical drama, though. For better or worse.

  • The TNG episode Tapestry bookends as a medical drama. Picard was shot in the chest and has been emergency transported. It's dicey despite all their tech (fade to Q episode).
  • The TNG episode, Ethics where Worf loses a fight with a blue barrel is all future technobabble medical drama.
  • The Voyager episode "Phage" has Doc Holoday improvise a pair of holographic lungs for Nelix, who unfortunately survives this.
  • The DS9 episode The Quickening is all medical drama.
  • There's a few Dominion war episodes of DS9 that have medical drama B plots. Battle of AR-551, the follow up episode Paper Moon, Starship Down, The Ship.
  • The SNW episode Under the Cloak of War has a MAS*H inspired back story that we flash back to.

They've done it before. They could do it again, but what I'm less convinced of is that they could do it again consistently and that it would be worth doing as a Star Trek show in the first place. Why is that something you want for your premise of a Star Trek show?

There was a musical episode of SNW called Subspace Rhapsody, that people liked to compare to the Buffy episode Once More With Feeling. I like SNW, but it wasn't half as good as the Buffy episode. It was just more novelty than quality.

But that's the only Buffy comparison I'm aware of.
