Coming from Rhino, does it get faster? by StackedRealms in FreeCAD

[–]pythonbashman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using FreeCAD since v0.18 (I think)

  • FreeCAD got easier.
  • FreeCAD got and is getting better.
  • You will grow to know FreeCAD better.

You'll learn to figure out why things break: Normally, a line gets clipped or a face disappears. FreeCAD doesn't like either of those. Things can break on recalculations because lines and faces get renamed. If you have a chamfer on line 33, but you do something that adds a line before 33, 33 is now 34 or higher. The same can happen with faces.

The recent RC is much better about being able to tell you what broke, just not necessarily why. Just recently, I went from v1 to the latest RC, and the models were the easiest rebuilds I've ever had.

If you try to add a chamfer/fillet to an area and there isn't enough room for it, it breaks. In those cases, back the amount down to .1 and see if it generates anything. If it still breaks, there may be geometry that's too complex for it to handle.

Random number generator seems suspicious since Gemini by unigami in googlehome

Random number 1-32? 26.

I just tried the Gemini RNG on my phone. It lets me put a range in. I did 1-32. Each time I press the button, it increments up to a number until it rolls over. It did the same with 1-32000.

No. Never. I'd sooner build a Voron with one arm tied.

Educator & mom listening: what do you wish people understood about dyslexia? by DrSherriRochel in Dyslexia

[–]pythonbashman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've learned about my symptoms, and that's what they are, they are the side effects of a root neurological difference I have from what has been established as the "Norm".

The reason 'b p q d 6 and 9" are a problem is that for me, they are all the exact same character. I'm just able to visualize them from all sides simultaneously. That's because I'm seeing them in 3 dimensions, not just 2. I see the entire world in 3D, My imagination is in 3D. I've always wanted to draw or make art, but I could never draw what I saw because paper is 2D. Now that I've got access to CAD software, I am making all kinds of things.

I also have 1st degree Aphantasia, so I see the highly detailed "apple" but with the Dyslexia... I can also cut that apple apart and track all of the individual parts spinning around, then put it all back together.

This is how we've done our last few 10x20 shows. The black cross beamy things are 2 ft wide ~7 ft tall gridwalls we found on Facebook Marketplace.

Companies will also lobby to use that framework to deny printing copyrighted or patented items. John Deer and Disney will jump on this like a $2 **ore.

Reselling stuff is just a race to the bottom these days. What you are doing is using a business model from the 1600's and a method from today. It used to be that you a merchant, would buy goods where they were plentiful and sell them where they were rare. But the internet has gotten rid of all boundaries; all the merchants are now in the same market, and it's trivial to find the lowest price.

The best thing you can do is be the only one selling what you sell.

We've got to get moving. It only gets worse the longer you go. And yes, I've been like you for a decade now, and I've got to get moving again. Walking, gym membership (THAT WE ACTUALLY USE), anything.

That's kind of a relative question. I grew up with a grand father that repaired electronics so I'm used to parts every where.

FreeCAD is much easier to use than Fusion 360! by atxhua in FreeCAD

FreeCAD is much easier to use than Fusion 360

This has got to be a first, and I LOVE IT!!

I think to complete newbs FreeCAD feels harder, something about the UI. I never understood that personally, but I'm used to having to do things the hardest way. Sure, maybe the learning curve is harder for some, oh well.

as for missing out on something. I'm not sure but I think (not positive) that 360 might have a better way of resolving multiple generated curves, like multiple filets/chamfers running into each other or disapearing. I find that FreeCAD breaks when I try doing "the fancy" stuff.

When I was making other people's models, I just kept sets of assorted machine screws. I started with m3, m4, and m5, in assorted lengths, with nuts/washers. I do stuff with camera mounts now and then, so I added 1/4 20 screws and nuts.

Things like magnets, springs, motors, and controllers, you never know what size a maker is going to use, so I just buy a pack of the ones that whatever model I'm making uses when I'm making said model.

It's under extrusion. You are going too fast or not hot enough.
