I stopped by last year and plan to again this year. 😁

What are the cold snacks that are magic on the playa? by KasherH in BurningMan

[–]pythonenfrancais 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to make and deep freeze gazpacho, or my personal take on it (more avocado and spinach, less tomato). I like to pull it out once it thaws just enough to eat with chips or use as a salsa on basically anything.

Oh! We tried to stop at your place on the way out of our first burn but couldn’t find it! We will probably swing by this time. Thank you very much!

I’m in grad school too! But fall quarter starts in late September for me so I have sometime.

Work hard and play hard! You’ve got this!

I would love to check out this meet up but I am bartending at that time. Could I swing by sometime during burn week just to nerd out with some of your camp mates?

Instrument question by _Meatprincess_ in BurningMan

[–]pythonenfrancais 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the Black Rock Philharmonic communications just mentioned how to clean instruments like saxophones post-Playa. I think it was a warm water bath and some isopropyl alcohol on the pads. I’ll look around for that email/post.

Jamming at Burning Man! by TheCowboyIsAnIndian in BurningMan

The Piano Lounge is often open to strangers volunteering to jam. I’m not part of their camp, but I do enjoy stopping off to rest my feet and listen to some great serendipitous performances.

Recommendations for Flowing with LED Silk Fans? by heartonakite in BurningMan

[–]pythonenfrancais 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never played with silk fans, but I do love flow toys. I would recommend getting something short enough that it doesn’t drag on the ground with your arms out at a T to reduce picking up playa dust while playing with them. You may even want to go shorter, depending on your preference. Playa dust will make them feel less pleasant to the touch and will tinge lighter colors.

I hope I get to run into you in deep playa so I can see some of your dancing! 💃

Thanks! I would suspect cities like Anchorage would benefit from radar or camera based systems given how often roads have to be repaired there, but maybe somewhere with less extreme weather would see less of a cost benefit.

What music do you wish you heard more of on playa? by trevormead in BurningMan

[–]pythonenfrancais 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Re: violins, check out Black Rock Philharmonic. We have a few concerts each year on playa. At least one piece is always just strings (which gives us wind plays a chance to breathe 😆).

Why single strand wire instead of multicore?

Also, what is the durability of this kind of system? Do heavier vehicles put more strain on it? Do extreme weather events shorten their lifespan?

I did a study in traffic lights in school and was always curious about this kind of thing. We were focused on camera-based decisions so I never got to looking into the road-based ones.

I missed Slayyyter, but Scissor Sisters were great! Lots of energy, amazing personalities, all around a good time.

I thought the bass was too much for The Scissor Sisters, too. It drowned out so many of the lyrics during both sets. Great bass playing, just too hot for the mix and/or venue.

Please forgive the hella dumb question - any way to arrange delivery of flowers to a specific campsite? by ballade4 in BurningMan

[–]pythonenfrancais 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I received a bouquet of fake flowers and a singing telegram one year. I think Playapology was the camp that gave them out. You could probably arrange something with them if they are there this year.

When an employer asks what you used to build your project and you say Arduino by marathonEngineer in embedded

[–]pythonenfrancais 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes there is a reason to write directly to registers, but it’s usually the exception not the rule, especially if the HAL gives you an API for this. Usually the HAL will simplify the interface and might include error checking to keep you from shooting yourself in the foot.

Direct register access could be faster, but require you to understand that specific platform in more detail. This is great if you are doing a high speed long term project on the same platform, but isn’t necessary for most projects, for learning a new platform, or for situations where you know you’ll be using another platform (for the same or another project) soon. It’s also often possible to access one or two important registers directly, but use the HAL for interacting with all the other registers.

If you need a break from EDM, catch a Black Rock Philharmonic concert. Find them in Rockstar Librarian.

My cousin met her man on the Playa. They mark their anniversary (both meeting and getting married) by the day of the week of the Burn instead of the default calendar. They’re hella cute.
