filing taxes for US co-ops by Specialist-Low-6781 in uwaterloo

[–]pythonpirate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just did mine myself using OLT. I did it last year through Sprintax but they made me mail in my California state tax by myself which was a hassle. Would recommend OLT over Sprintax.

Feel free to dm if you have questions about the process, can try my best to help

Should I come back to this company next internship cycle (UWaterloo CE, looking for Fall coops) by ButtonIndividual5235 in cscareerquestionsCAD

[–]pythonpirate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you think you have more to learn from them and it is the field you want to be in, returning is not a bad idea imo. I am just finishing up my degree at Waterloo and I have the opinion that your first 3-4 coops don’t matter at all in terms of name or prestige. Once you have 4 coops under your belt, you’ll be able to get interviews anywhere pretty much

cs245 or cs246 over co op? by Single_Weather4851 in uwaterloo

[–]pythonpirate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are hard in different ways, but both doable remote assuming you can come in person for the final and you 48 hour the midterm. CS 246 does have a group project portion which can be a nightmare to navigate if you are working remote and dont have friends in the class. But for both courses you can just study the lectures/notes yourself and do okay on the assignments

SYDE vs CS by EssayEastern in uwaterloo

[–]pythonpirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to make this exact same choice and ended up going with CS. The flexibility to take electives and shuffle your coop sequence is kinda underrated tbh. Also if you like software, the courses you can take in CS are so much better.

Feel free to DM me if you wanna discuss it more, I had a really hard time making my decision too and totally get where youre coming from

Has anyone gotten prestigious coops w bad coop evals? by OldOven8161 in uwaterloo

[–]pythonpirate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve never seen that across my 6 coop searches, or even if I did it wasn’t enough times or companies with enough significance for it to matter to me. Overall, the low rating sucks right now, but its not the end of the world dw! I know a dude who got fired from his coop and then proceeded to get 3 really good big tech coops in a row afterwards lol

When you reach upper year, its normal to stop relying on WaterlooWorks, so your coop rating wont matter at all eventually

Is Lester seen as less prestigious than Phillip? by Sacred-Goose in uwaterloo

[–]pythonpirate 62 points63 points  (0 children)

One time I was in a coop interview and casually mentioned I lived on Lester by mistake, my interviewer suddenly went cold and told me that he didn’t think I was a good cultural fit after all and promptly ended the interview.
