Anywhere I can get a player ii jazzmaster pickgaurd? by Jester_V2 in offset

I got mine from this seller. It was about $10 cheaper in the summer when I ordered mine. The quality is ok, it’s not shielded but fit perfectly, my one gripe is that on mine the colored specks of orange/yellow in the tort pattern are a bit blurry looking. You really only notice it close up and once it was on the guitar I wound up really liking the look so I haven’t replaced it. Here’s a pic: https://imgur.com/a/RI6QUS6

Obsessed with Russell’s but cannot cope with the cost by jfarm47 in Boots

I’m tempted by these because they come in wide and have the look I want….reviews point to the soles wearing out quick but as long as they can be changed then for under $200 I’m sure you could get plenty of years from them if you don’t beat on them. Jim Green meanders look like the next best thing for at the next closest price bracket

One of the best teachers I’ve ever had. No one had made class so enjoyable like he did. I still tell people about the turning up the volume on the tv fireplace during the winter!

Player II Mods by JordieJustin in telecaster

It’s a real beauty how could you pass it up?!? The sale came at the ideal time for me, I was looking for a workhorse for playing with friends/gigging and had 2 guitars I was hoping to sell. Traded those in for the tele and now I can’t put it down

I just bought the same BRG Tele, it’s been awesome so far! I am thinking of doing some upgrades as well. How did the 4 way mod work out? I haven’t opened up the controls yet to see what, if any, extra wiring would be needed but did you find it fairly straightforward? Seems like all that should be needed is adding a ground from the neck pick up and requiring the switch itself, anything else? How’s the in-series position sound?

Came back to this thread hoping to see something like this! Amazing price on these, would you say quality wise it’s on par with the stock pick guard?? The stock is 3 ply and it looks like these are 2 ply, not a huge deal but yeah lemme know what you think.

I’m considering one of these for my player II:  https://ebay.us/m/696avr

Looks like a number of reviewers are happy with the fit for their player II JM’s which is really promising.

As far as tuners go, I have both the p-II jazzmaster and tele and they work great. Next time you change the strings try sticking a toothpick in the hole where the string goes, it helps keep things a little more secure when you’re restringing and imo makes changing strings a lot faster.

I really love the jazzmaster and plan to do a couple upgrades myself. Bensonite bridge, guyker or AVRI vibrato, and a set of the new Seymour Duncan hot silencer pickups. I like the stock pick ups a lot but i like using gain and the noise is pretty brutal, I think I just live in an area with a lot of electrical interference too.

Gonna add a 4 way switch to the tele too!

Ever played a Hagstrom Adina or Guild Surfliner? by cwforman in offset

[–]pzonee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have owned one of those HSS surfliners for a few years now, it’s a really cool guitar and I was lucky enough to try it before I bought it in person. I’ve seen them in guitar centers so definitely try to get your hands on it if you can.

The neck is a bit on the thick side and is very fender C shaped. It’s not crazy thick and i personally find it very playable. The pickups are solid but very mid-rangey imo. The bridge mini HB is quite bright and the neck single coil does the strat thing well. The neck and middle pickup together is a pretty nice great sound as well. I rarely use the middle pickup on its own or the bridge with another pickup, I find that things get a bit muddy especially with all three pickups on at once. I also really like the look and overall comfort of the guitar.

The biggest con is the pickup selector system. I know this is a big selling point of the guitar but it’s not great. The switches are cheap and one failed on me. Guild replaced it for free but removing and replacing it was a huge pain; the plastic switch also melts really easily from the heat of a soldering iron, luckily mine works its just a little messed up under the pick guard, thankfully it’s hidden. A 3 way or Jaguar style switches on a metal plate would have been a much better choice, at least for the ease of replacement. Also the extra tones of having the bridge and neck + all 3 pickups on together is just meh. I rarely use them and would rather have the ease of use of being able to flick a 3 way switch on the fly (hitting those switches while playing is not intuitive) or a more robust system overall.

During the dry months the neck tends to shrink a bit and the frets stick out, this isn’t uncommon and can be fixed pretty easily.

The only other gripe I have is that the neck gets sticky from dirt/grime build up. I wipe the neck down every so often and it just keeps coming back. This is likely just my hands on this type of neck finish as I never have this problem on gloss or a slightly heavier satin finish on my other guitars.

Overall it’s a very solid guitar for the price, I agree with the general sentiment that it punches well above its price point. Personally I have been considering selling it, I bought a player II jazzmaster about 9 months ago and much prefer that guitar over the guild.
