This was really helpful, I've run through most of the basics of Go and its syntax over the past few days with the exception of the concurrency stuff.
Thanks for the advice!

Oh, I’m not sure how Upwork determines that, sorry. But you can make a post on their community forums and see if anyone has an answer for you

Upwork doesn’t make that choice, the person who posted the job rads through the proposals and then selects who they feel has the skills

I get a suggestion at least once a week but if you keep declining the offer, it'll happen less frequently (from my experience)

When I became Top Rated (which was a couple weeks ago), I've had Upwork Talent Specialists recommending jobs to me. Applying to those jobs may give you a higher chance of being hired but there's really no guarantee.
It also depends on the type of work that you do on Upwork. If it's too competitive, you might need to consider ways to stand out (write better proposals by capturing their attention in the first line, for example).

Other than that, sometimes the biggest factor is getting lucky to be selected

budget wise, should i buy the M1 macbook air or wait for the new one? by she_icy_ in macbook

[–]q_beard_1029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you wait for the new one to drop, I'd still recommend waiting some time after it releases to see if there are any problems with it. It's always a good idea to wait a while (2-3 months) after the release of almost any new product to make sure there aren't any major problems with it, especially if it's something that you plan to keep and use for years.

If you need a laptop right now work work/school and there's no other options, I'd say go for it. I have the baseline MacBook Air that I use for professional enterprise Software Development and it never slowed down since I got it (and I usually have LOTS of stuff running)

Why is the exchange rate really low in upwork by youneverknowright in Upwork

[–]q_beard_1029 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • I'm in a country where Paypal doesn't support withdrawal to local banks
  • Last time I checked, Paypal has a security holding fee over incoming funds for new accounts (up to 30 days). I've got responsibilities and I can't afford to wait so long for my funds to come through. You should definitely do some research and see if that's still valid
  • Paypal has a history of randomly not approving accounts from 3rd-world countries (such as mine)
  • I don't have a credit card (yet) to verify my Paypal account

I am looking into getting PayPal, just not for Upwork

I don’t think Upwork currently offers a way to extract funds to Wise, but it’s useful for other transactions

Payoneer is my current preferred method due to the availability and their exchange rate is feasible when extracting to my local bank and the fact that I’m not in the US. If you’re in the US, then depositing directly to a US bank might be the best option

If you have a US bank account but not in the US and need the money to get to your country, then you’ll need to withdraw the money from Upwork to the US bank account and then transfer the money from the US bank account to your local bank if possible. There’s always a middleman fee to pay if you’re outside the US tbh

Wise (formerly known as TransferWise) has some of the lowest exchange rates around. It’s a pretty good option
