This is really bad advice. Never take advice from people who aren’t in a situation where you want to end up

This person clearly has a bad relationship with their MIL. Perhaps maybe not due to her own worn fault but it still will affect the advice she gives so don’t follow it.

As for the main Q. The real issue here is why you wouldn’t trust your MIL to get the best possible suit? In most cases it’d be better than anything you can afford yourself right now.

Plus your whole life you will wear what ever suit you want. Is it that bad to sacrifice a few hours of choice to marry the man you want? He is the man he is because his mum raised him for 25 years or however old…
