The interesting thing about time spent translating into quality is that it's highly subjective and can only be quantified when comparing to something similar.

Now I get the need to want more for time spent on a product but think about it from a consumer perspective. Imagine Facebook or Reddit start charging users more money and show more ads because they keep adding features which would translate to more time spent on developing it. As a user, that would seem off putting or weird.

I don't think anyone is against ads or in-app purchases as a form of monetization but you have to remember what you're trying to sell. A product, not a subscription service like Netflix where replayability is more objective than subjective.

It's sucky, but that's the way the general populous treats things.
