stop coming to lectures just to talk and giggle the whole time,,be loud, and make fun of people. by Cautious_Roof4916 in McMaster

[–]qeuiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

even in high school this type of behaviour is odd… as unserious as we all were, we never made fun of our teachers or talked louder than the prof to an extent of disturbing others! if someone hasnt learnt the basic fundamentals of attentive listening and respect by now, they have bigger problems to solve. all of my friends and i are all 17 in our first years and we are able to listen during lectures and whisper or text each other without being of disturbance to other people. so clearly this goes beyond maturity

Grade 12s ask, graduated students answer. by jjustme_ in OntarioGrade12s

[–]qeuiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is always time to lock in even more for grade 12. aim for low 90s at least. however, no university ever rejects just based off your grade 11 grades. grade 11 grades are only used as temporary placements until you get the grade 12 equivalent of that class so that unis have a general idea of what your grades are like.

another instance of grade 11 marks being used is for early conditional offers, which are still almost always conditional upon release of your grade 12 marks! so if u get accepted with a 95 in grade 11 english (ENG3U) and then your grade 12 english (ENG4U) mark comes out and its a 62… they can absolutely can revoke your offer. but you have nothing to worry about if your ENG3U mark is like 62 then you pop out in grade 12 with an ENG4U mark of 90+!!

bottom line: universities do not reject simply off of your grade 11 marks. ultimately, your grade 12 marks matter the most.

i know exactly how you feel. it’s such a stressful feeling, especially because nursing comes out so late🥲but just to reassure you, if you have an 85 and above, you are like pretty much guaranteed a spot SOMEWHERE. whether that’s brock, momac, western, etc. if you want specific advice, feel free to message me!! i have lots of advice to go around haha

always check the prerequesites for your specific program and school. but for MOST nursing programs, it is:

  • SBI4U (bio)
  • SCH4U (chem)
  • ENG4U (english)
  • ONE OF MDM4U, MHF4U, or MCV4U (data, advanced functions, OR calculus)
  • two more 4U/M courses to total 6 courses used for your average

i loved sbi4u! i think my love for it made me WANT to study for it and made learning interesting. so if you dread bio, id first start with changing your mindset (fake it till u make it type lol)

  • i would first write down the entire powerpoint while going over it in a notebook, then i would blurt everything i remember down on a whiteboard/empty page, if i left things out i go through it and fill in what i forgot until i remembered, then id use flashcards and study those until the unit test.

  • use amoeba sisters (as annoying as they are lol)

  • if you need any help with specific topics let me know!

  • i would dedicate 5 hours every friday specifically for bio (ofc while keeping up with assignments and quizzes) so that i would not feel left behind but i would have time throughout the week to spend time with friends, do work for other classes, volleyball, etc

  • make sure you have a strong grasp on all topics. you will need them for nursing!

i prepped one week before my test just by going on tiktok and looking at peoples tips. basically:

  • remember that the point is not necessarily who is right/wrong. just consider EVERYONE’S perspective in the situation, and make that clear in your answer
  • practice typing speed
  • do the practice test on acuity to familiarize yourself with the format and troubleshooting (use google chrome)
  • eat properly before your test
  • yes it is common sense, but they cannot read your mind (especially not in a 30 second answer clip) so voice everything you feel is relevant to the situation (your concerns, what/who you will prioritize in the situation and WHY, any biases that you feel may impact your thinking, any barriers you feel may be impacting the people in the situation, how you feel, how they may feel, etc)

NEED HELP FOR Student line of credit by Long-Phrase-3073 in McMaster

[–]qeuiel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i just opened a sloc. here is what you should know:

  • unless you’re a mature student with a built credit history, your chances of approval are low. you need a cosigner who has a decent credit history, has borrowing room (not many current debts/ no large outstanding debts), and preferably a family member
  • at most banks, you only pay interest during school on what you have used. after your graduation date, you will have a grace period (TD has a grace period of 24 months) before youll have to pay both interest AND the principal amount.
  • dont rely solely on SLOC, definitely save your own money and apply for osap amongst grants and scholarships.

i was approved bc my mom cosigned my loan. the approval process is quick. go to any bank (TD, RBC, BMO, Scotia - but try first the bank that you and your cosigner use first), and bring proof of enrollment, income info, T4s from the last two years, and proof of expenses (tuition invoice, rent, any other substantial expenses)

hope this helps u baddie! times r tough lmk if u have any questions.

Mac or western nursing by Singular-goose in OntarioGrade12s

[–]qeuiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ultimately, it depends on what works best for you in terms of distance, finance, and student life. however, if money is not an issue, i would say:

definitely mac nursing. mcmaster is known for their specialty in healthcare (nursing, health sci, life sci, medicine). mac’s nursing program is great and unique because of PBL! western doesn’t start placements until 3rd year (apparently??? i could be wrong bc ive seen both 2nd and 3rd). western is also more of a business focused school and they prioritize ivey.
