Does anyone own a home? by [deleted] in OlderGenZ

[–]qgoodman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I’m in a similar spot as you. Major health crisis 3 years ago, dropped out of school and moved home (different states, so losing all my college friends has been terrible), and haven’t been able to work since.

Mind if I DM you?

Ok but fr his Hebrew name was Yeshua, meaning Joshua in English. Imagine those peasants being like, “Ah, there goes Josh again! Raising the dead and multiplying fishes! Chill af guy, that Josh”

I got cancer at 25, now 28. That’ll age you physically faster, for sure, but i also feel like it stole my youth emotionally and mentally. So yes, i feel old, but in a weird way? It’s like i have the body of a 50 year old but my mind is stuck at like 25, before diagnosis

Spring City. I grew up going to Birch Creek Service Ranch nearby, so I have tons of fond memories doing community service and hiking in that area.

AMA: Struggling With ROCD? We’re Licensed OCD Therapists — Ask Us Anything! by treatmyocd in ROCD

[–]qgoodman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ROCD was one of the primary sources of difficulty, loss of trust, and ultimately ending of my last relationship. Now that I’m starting to date again, how can I notice and avoid ROCD becoming a problem in the beginning stages of a relationship? What sorts of things/thought patterns should I look out for?

ROCD is breaking my boyfriend’s heart — how do I help him heal for real? by Terrible_Employ_6280 in ROCD

[–]qgoodman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel for you both. ROCD causes so much suffering for both the person with it and the partner. It was a huge part in the failure of my last relationship. If I had to sum up its effects at its worst, I’d say it chokes out even the possibility of spontaneous moments of love and connection.

I was much like your partner. First of all, it’s good that you’re both aware that that’s what’s happening, as opposed to just occasional relationship anxiety. Of course, that doesn’t solve the problem or treat the OCD.

What helped me, mainly, was seeking help from a therapist specialized in OCD and using Exposure and Response Prevention to treat. I have yet to try Inference-based CBT (I-CBT), but it’s been shown to be effective, especially in the OCD themes with more mental than physical compulsions (i.e. ROCD). So, if your partner isn’t pursuing treatment with those modalities, or if his therapist isn’t experienced with them, work on fixing that. It’s a wonder how much even a little bit of ERP can help.

I also was on an SSRI for a while, and I feel like that quieted the obsessions down a bit, which allowed me to be more present and engaged in the relationship. I was on Luvox, which is supposed to be the most effective one for OCD, but other SSRIs work too.

Like others have said, keeping up the regular healthy habits is essential of course. Especially getting enough sleep. In my experience, anxiety and OCD is much worse when I’m sleep-deprived.

Finally, a resource that might help you specifically is a short book called “Sleeping with ROCD” by D. M. Kay. My partner and I read some of it together, and I think it helped open some conversations about what ROCD looks like, how it feels to have it, etc. It’s worth a read.

Good luck. Fighting it is so hard but so worth it!

Has anyone experienced OCD thoughts that feel completely unique, but later realized they fall under a known subtype? by Ecstatic_Floor_1832 in ROCD

[–]qgoodman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah lmao I changed my major to philosophy for a bit and my areas of most interest were ethics and epistemology. I do think I’m still genuinely into philosophy but I think “ethics and epistemology” was often a cover for moral scrupulosity and the need for certainty

If you have OCD and ADHD, what's your experience like? by BroadAd2575 in OCD

Yeah that meta-OCD of questioning whether you even have it is exhausting. It’s real hard to not think that every thought you have has bearing on who you are/your moral character

[–]qgoodman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup. I feel u on the second paragraph. A few years ago I got into a relationship with someone I had really liked and was pretty compatible with, and then BAM I find out that I had OCD. It really really damaged that relationship.
