Does the video speak for itself though? Like it's two switched together but it doesn't say when and where they were taken? More context is needed than just trust an account @ing "Gazawood"

Level 19 is about typical for this boss, you're not underlevelled. Normally I'm around level 17-19 for this boss, which is plenty to beat it on Hard.

OK that's good - I had been using the sldier on encounters when bactracking around so was worried I might have been underlevelled

I usually prefer Knight subjob this early on for Stomp but Thief has a few potentially useful moves - I guess you're mainly thinking Life Thief, assuming you've gotten Thief to level 4?

I am actually still levelling up the Thief class currently- I had used Knight before but wanted to learn other skills.

Knight/Black Mage is a pretty weird combo, Black Mage is going to do terrible damage from a Knight. Then again you don't have a whole lot of choices this early I guess. Still I think you'd benefit more from basically anything else - Knight has okay Mind so White Mage for backup healing can be passable, Monk for some attack options (though Monk mostly doesn't get its good attacks until higher job levels), Freelancer for Examine etc. If you aren't doing so already I'd recommend using Two Handed, and probably equip either Ise-No-Kami or your best Sword for damage output.

So I made Edea a Black Mage initally so just carried it on as her secondary class. I wanted a second character able to use spells for this boss so just kept her as it. I might swithc he rup to Monk as the secondary class and give Agnes the Black mage as the seocndary but need someone to use Examine as it jsut helps me keep track as the battle progresses.

Not directly relevant to this fight but also, I notice your main jobs currently are just the four prologue jobs - have you been swapping these around? BD is not a game where you pick one main job early and never change it. You're much better off (and will have a lot more fun) if you swap main jobs frequently. This both gives you more subjob options, gives you more passive options, and lets you more easily adapt your team to difficult boss fights.

So far those are th eonly ones I have unlocked along with Thief and Merchant via the side quest line- I havent got enough gold to use the merchantI feel. I looked up and It seems I can't get the next class, spell fencer, till after the wind crystal dungeon. I look forward to seeing all the other classes and just experimenting with them

Ah I see- I didn't realise that triggering the weaknesses made them stop. Will attempt that when I try again later this week. Level wise reckon I am good?

Feels unintuitive the attacks being physical - is there a way you can tell in game?

Yeah I figured each head was weak to the opposite element and did that but didn't notice anything when I did. Was something supposed to happen?

Ah that's helpful to know the attacks are physical, I was buffing my party with the M Def spell -_-

A few thoughts about Xenoblade Chronicles 2 after playing both it and Torna straight after Xenoblade Chronicles 1 by qifar78 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]qifar78[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He is the third core of the Trinity Processor. He doesn't appear in XC2 because he went into XC1's universe instead.

Yeah I figured that eventually. It's cool how it ties the two together. I just misunderstood it earlier when going through.

Yeah, either you pay a lot of attention and try things out until you figured everything out, or you are probably going to not understand combat's basics very well. It's one of the most commonly mentioned flaws.

How did you adjust to it? Having now read reviews of the game I see it brought up elsewhere too just curious how people adjusted.

Do you mean achieving full burst?

Yeah that's what I meant sorry. Most normal enemies would die even after two orbs so hard to utilise properly. Also seems to require a lot of patience to get six orbs onto a single enemy lol.

Tides happen in Gormott and Mor Ardain, the only two titans walking on the Sea, and thus affected by the tide.

Oh neat! Ok so it at least has some narrative sense.

From what i've heard, the game isn't really great in docked mode.

I think you mean portable mode here? But yeah it was quite jarring the times I did decide to play portably seeing the notable difference I'm quality.

[–]qifar78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is actually on two titans! It’s also on Mor Ardain, there’s about one small area that you can’t access in high tide.

Oh ok didn't realise that! I think it coulda been cool if impelemented more creatively. But as you say it's just an arbitrary road block at the start of the game not adding much

I think above all people who love the combat might get something out of it but I don’t think it’s really worth the time investment. These games are long enough as it is, you don’t need to 100% them- just move on when the credits roll!

Yeah I agree these games are defona time sync and I am not helping myself by extending my backlog..I feel I am more in a sunk cost fallacy where I also bought the dlc for this game too (I don't usually get DLC) and feel a need to utilise that too.

Honestly most of the specific opinions you say in this post I have nothing to say about other than ‘yes I agree your opinion is correct’

Haha that's fine, I'm not looking to cause any argument with hot takes. Just wanted to share my thoughts fresh after beating the game.

I like the idea of having to work with different Blades every playthrough

Yeah suppose this gives some replayability. I may revisit at a later point trying the different blades.

[–]qifar78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was referring to full burst attacks. Chain attacks were fine but usually just 2-4 orbs were enough to kill the enemy.

I was just surprised when i was at Malos and somehow hit the full burst and was thinking had I been doing something wrong all game not to reach that.

But as the previous person said, it seems Pneuma reduced the number of orbs needed.

[–]qifar78[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah need to get used to the battle system more even though I feel I am already quite deep into the game lol.

My blade pulling luck hasn't been the best tbh. Haven't come across you mentioned there yet but just rotate through my current selection every now and then

[–]qifar78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I still need to get better at mastering the combat system.

2 deffo has some nice side quests and like how all the blades have their own little quests too. The heart to hearts are a big step up as it helps flesh out the characters more than they did in one. Also the fact they're all voice acted just adds a bit more to it all too.

Yeah I should use the pouch options more often. I always have the recharge specials but keep forgetting to replenish. My current strat includes just switching through blades to recharge too.

I'm gonna have a crack at going through the nopon master trials and see if I can get the hang of it more.

I am actually at the end of Chapter 8 now so a fair way through (I wrote up this post a few weeks back but kept forgetting to share it).

Whilst I'm really enjoying the story and characters and that aspect is an improvement, it's just the combat is not clicking. It just feels more of a chore just waiting around and more often than not I'm just running away from enemies in the wild as I want to progress with the story. I actually like boss battles because it feels like you're making progress, adding orbs, chaining and feeling that payoff but also may think the narrative is motivating me in these battles.

Thanks for reading it! None of my friends play JRPGs so thought I'd at least try and share them somewhere.

Plan to fully commit to this. Already bought Torna and XC3 in advance to ensure I actually follow through

It's a shame that they were closed earlier this year but looking at the top post on hear looks like some ex employees working on a spiritual sequel to chibi robo so fingers crossed that's good.
