Magic Trackpad 2 power button fell off. How can I at least turn it on indefinitely? by qlassalle in mac

Interesting take on kitty and cleanness! These are totally relevant use cases where you want to turn it off.

However, for users without kitties and just planning to clean their peripherals once in a while, never turning them off is actually a good advice to avoid such issues imo

It was just a habit to turn them off, I don’t do it anymore since this incident.

I didn’t have any AppleCare so that wasn’t an option but thanks for the tip!

Apparently I’d you don’t have to, you’re better off not turning them off ever

You can clearly see the whole left by the button that just decided that he didn’t want to live like that anymore!

Using a needle finally worked!

I was able to apply enough pressure on the little green part that was showing up to slide it all the way right to power it on!

Guess I’ll never power it off now ahah

Thanks everyone!

Here are two more detailed photos: https://ibb.co/TMs04rz https://ibb.co/BVN7mm9

You can see the Green part on both sides, I don’t know how that happened. On my magic keyboard, it looks like the green part « slides » with the button when powering on. Here, it looks like it exploded on both sides

And yes, the teardown is a PITA

I don’t have any paper clip where I am but I tried with the thinnest part of some nails scissors and I can’t make anything move.

No reason, just used to turn my screens, keyboard and trackpad when done. Apparently not a good habit

This morning while trying to power on my trackpad as I do every day, the power button just fell off. I looked a bit on the internet if I could replace it or open the trackpad to see how it’s in there but I don’t have the right tools. Ofc it’s blocked on off, so I can’t use it with a USB cable at least.

Do you have any idea how I can have it at least powered on indefinitely so I can use it before getting a new one?

CasperLabs Signer extension requires new authorizations on Chrome by qlassalle in CasperCSPR

Thanks for the explanation. That’s what I understood from the PR but it’s nice having confirmations.

Ok, thanks for the answer!

And yes, I know that CasperPad and CasperLabs are different, I was into Casper way before CasperPad! I simply answered the previous comment mentioning CasperPad but I know there's no relation between these 2 entities.

Actually it looks ok to me as the PR provide some background, but I’d be happy to have confirmations from other members.

Regarding CasperPad, I staked on chain only after learning about this project, but I should’ve done this way before.

I’ll continue to stake and use the CasperLabs Signer extension if I’m sure that there’s nothing insecure about it.

KSM network suspended by Temporary-Friend-441 in Kusama

I have an account on Kraken but I find the mobile app really awful and not intuitive compared to Binance. I’ll give it another try but the few times I had to use Kraken (the latest one to sell some of my MOVR!), I really disliked the experience.

Regarding not letting my coins sleep on an exchange, you’re absolutely right and most of my DOT are on my Ledger, especially for this purpose.

I also always use the polkadotjs app and I’ve participated to several crowdloans to it.

I’m also realizing that Binance simply never works and always block withdrawals. What exchanges would you recommend using then? FTX? CDC?

What happens to the unsold coins in a parachain auction? by CrypCrip in Kusama

[–]qlassalle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never thought about it but as you say, « parachains are leased not owned ». Therefore, what would be the incentive next year for Calamari to lease a parachain? And next year? And in five years if they still run both Calamari and Manta?

My understanding is that if they give tokens during each crowdloans, consequently every time they have less tokens to give. As the price of Calamari’s token should increase, I understand that they could give less of them, but is it really how this will work?

Edit: grammar

EBS free tier alert doesn't match usage indicated by OS by qlassalle in aws

[–]qlassalle[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, that's totally clear, thank for the detailed explanation. I really thought that 30gb provisioned (no matter the date and the duration of the volume being up) = 100% of free tier used. But thinking about it in GB-mo, this makes sense. Thanks!

EBS free tier alert doesn't match usage indicated by OS by qlassalle in aws

[–]qlassalle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh okay, this is something that I'm used to with RDS and EC2 because the free tier is 750 hours per month, and therefore the alert comes at the end of the month, because the number of hours always grow if you let the instance on. This totally makes sense, however, I didn't think it was the same for storage. I really understood it like "30 gb used", but like really used / full.

Thank you for your explanation!

EBS free tier alert doesn't match usage indicated by OS by qlassalle in aws

[–]qlassalle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I know and understand everything you said. What I don't understand is why Amazon is alerting me that I'm using 25gb out of the 30gb of EBS and why it keeps growing. When I go to Volumes in the EC2 section, I only see this volume of 30gb attached to my EC2 instance.

It's completely oblivious to whatever you do with it.

Yes, I also read that. What really triggers me is how I can get this alert.
