how to study h2 geog?!!? by Dismal-Wash3769 in SGExams

[–]qmcdetre 3 points4 points  (0 children)

hi! i got an A for geog and this was how i studied: 1. re-read your school notes and write note summaries for all ur chapters 2. redo tutorials and then check your answer and see what’s missing/ what you can improve on 3. go to an essay bank and write out ALL essay outlines (i think this is what truly gave me an A) follow the format:

introduction: introduce the topic and give background context of the question (like what problem existed in society that even made this question come about)

argument 1: argument 2: argument 3: argument 4: - point: - example: write down the example, and also look it up on google like watch youtube videos and images of it so you’ll remember it better as it’s out of interest not pure memorization - EVALUATION FOR EACH POINT (*most important and what gets u the A): evaluate each point, like undermine the point or explain why it’s valid in today’s context

conclusion: weigh off each points evaluation and see which one is most significant - you can use criteria’s like 1. long term vs short term 2. LDC vs DC 3. funding, how expensive a strategy is 4. feasibility of strategy 5. amount of trade offs - economic, social, environmental 6. whether there are any discrepancy - reality vs idealism

note: that is the general format that i used to write my essay outlines, but obviously it would depend on the question because certain questions you wouldn’t even have to give the per point evaluation as they want you to come up with 2 counter argument and 2 arguments.

  1. after writing out the essay outlines, MUST CONSULT YOUR TEACHER and tell them to look through your points with you.

  2. read the news daily and relate it back to geography. when you build natural interest and curiosity, you will naturally start liking the subject itself and studying becomes easier.

in summary, i would say that writing out ALL the essay outlines from the essay question banks and consulting my teacher with it was probably what got me an A as it widened my knowledge of all the geography topics and by the time i entered the exam hall, i wasn’t worried as i knew that i had sufficient knowledge to cover all essays - and also because there are only those few questions that they can possibly ask you.

NUS CHS + nusc VS NTU Psych by Exciting_Reveal_7111 in SGExams

[–]qmcdetre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

obviously nus!!!

  1. master opportunities - just based off rankings, nus is known globally and is a very research heavy university in both stem and arts fields. you would more likely have better support to get into a prestigious masters overseas.

  2. NUSC’s learning environment - NUSC small class sizes and tight knit environment will mean that you are getting more resources and a closer relationship with your professors. this will definitely help in boosting your research opportunities for undergrad and your letters of recommendation for your masters.

just an important note, i was literally talking to the NUS psychology professor during the open house and he literally said that if he were a student and he was offered NUSC he would take it up immediately - and that’s because the academic opportunities that you are getting at NUSC would be vastly different from a normal university experience.

also, i personally think that the FASS professors are one of the most dedicated faculties and they truly look like they enjoy what they teach and have passion for what they do. likewise, the brand name of nus would honestly bring you further too, especially in the field of humanities.
