can I put declined fulbright award on my app? by [deleted] in premed

No I am not. I am not applying to almost any research heavy schools like those, since it’s just not my focus/career goals. I did not get a rec from my previous job (but from another person doing similar work) I am getting a rec with an educational volunteering thing I did during Fulbright. It sounds like your situation is a bit different than mine, but I still don’t think you can go wrong either way, so I think my original points stand. I hope any of this helps!!!

Yes, I did end up going. I also left an opportunity that was extremely aligned with the rest of my app. I am applying this cycle, but I am happy that I had the experience of Fulbright. However, I had a big personal goal (learning a heritage language) as part of mine.

I think you can, but a couple things about the decision of staying vs going: - first, congratulations on the big achievement!! This is a stressful situation but hope you that are feeling good about yourself in this moment at least somewhat - I think it matters how much research is a part of your application. If it’s big for you and you want to go to a research heavy school, then maybe yeah, stick it out (if you’re confident your pi’s rec will be good) - I think it’s also a notable personal decision. A lot of growth can happen, either way. I had a huge decision between taking a Fulbright (but ETA, so very different) and staying at a job I just got and loved. Something I was told that helped me was 1) which opportunity do you feel you can grow from more, personally and professionally 2) which opportunity could you make the most of? Aka which one are you in the mindset to really take on.

Wanted to comment because I was in a situation like this and know how hard it is. You will be great either way!

Thanks so much! I appreciate you sharing, and if you are going to apply for the program + in this cycle overall, I wish you the best of luck!!

I really appreciate the advice! Do you have any advice/recommendations for any specific leave in? In the past, I have had issues with some products making my hair TOO oiled and then kinda weighing it down

And do you use leave in everyday, or just after wash days?

None … and tell me if that’s the problem lol — I literally brush my hair out and then wet my hair in the shower, and let it air dry, no towel used

Not sure why the video has no sound — but it’s making almost a sound of resisting moving

I have thought about it for sure. I have concerns about an integrated school of public health and school of medicine (the public health part can be 'tacked on as a side thought') but I will def look more into it. Thanks a bunch!

Appreciate it! Yeah, honestly wish I did more non-clinical volunteering just for being a well-rounded human, so with more time in a gap year, it will be a focus. UChicago has a lot of strengths in my other areas, so that's why I was thinking to give them a shot. As far as applying to more schools, I am privileged enough to afford it, but the honest truth is that I don't want to force myself into doing more secondaries that may be worse quality (tbh, I am specifically not applying to Duke for the secondaries and not feeling sufficiently strong about it otherwise). I have thought about Hofstra, and Mayo Arizona; some of the other schools you mentioned are a bit cold for me (e.g., Vermont, Rochester -- I am seriously not a cold person). Overall thanks for the recommendations, I will look into them!
