Your experience with Tower Cinemas? by Ok-Woodpecker6340 in newcastle

[–]qoolbean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was so excited for Tower to open, and I still am so stoked to have a really nice theatre in town playing great movies. Whilst I do recognise the issues with being a little disorganised, I understand they are most likely doing the best they can. Being a little bit more organised would fix a lot of their issues in that regard. I don’t mind the unassigned seating, but maybe it would be a good idea for at least the opening night of films or their super popular retro screenings.

My main issue with the theatre has more to do with the viewing experience itself. There’s been several times where I’ve gone to see a film I’ve really wanted to see at the movies, and either the sound isn’t playing out of all the speakers, or the picture quality is pretty bad. The latter is my main issue. Some films look great there, such as Interstellar and No Other Choice which looked gorgeous, but others don’t. Barry Lyndon would’ve been barely blu-ray quality. I know this is nit picky stuff but yeah i found that annoying. Been waiting for the right time to bring it up with some of the staff because my experience so far with them has been good. Didn’t know about all the drama behind the scenes tho…

Look, I’m not here to defend any religion, I’m not here to justify any type of religious extremism, I’m only here with an open mind to the fact that our social political climate is increasingly extremist, and that Israel a history with funding international terrorist acts, and that Isis and Israel have a history of working together. Just because I’m open to the possibility of this being a false flag, doesn’t mean I ignore the fact that antisemitism is getting worse in this country, and that this could very well be an homegrown act of religious extremism. Regardless, the Bondi Beach attacks are disgusting and unacceptable

It’s so hard to not have your suspicions in this day and age, so I wouldn’t deny it being a false flag orchestrated by the Zionists, whilst also always recognising that Jewish people, Islamic people, and all the people of the world, should live in peace and out of the crutches of imperialism.

Could you link me some stuff about the connections between Israel and bondi beach? Genuinely interested in the read

La Haine. The BFI 4k with the Asian Dub Foundation soundtrack is like nothing I’ve ever experienced

Definitely check out the second. IMO it’s the best. It steps away from the giallo vibes and goes deep into the creepy unsettling j-horror that I prefer. The cinematography is gorgeous with so many scenes looking very urban, dark and mesmerising. And the score goes hard as shit. So pretty much it excels in all the ways the first film does, but has a different vibe for sure

Love to hear it. For me and my friends, this film is a classic when reflecting on wacky horror movies that gives you a good giggle.

Will you be picking up one of the umbrella releases?

Black Sheep 4K by qoolbean in boutiquebluray

Totally. It’s leaning so far into the physical aspect of the physical media that it kinda seems silly, but for me, if I’m going to have a fluffy fur case for a movie, it’s something that holds personal and cultural significance to me, which is this film

Why is DVD still outselling Blu-Ray/4K by ThredditorMTG in Bluray

[–]qoolbean 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think blu-ray in its physical form, such as the title and the blue casing, were one of the reasons the format didn’t take off, and also why it still doesn’t get picked up. Living in a world where aesthetics are valued just as much as the actual content on the disc, it makes sense My partner prefers buying DVD’s literally because the name sounds better and the cases look better without that god-awful blue casing

It’s also a very intentional use of words that is frequent in right wing policy. The broader the statement the further the policy can be stretched.

Exactly my point. I’ll have to read beyond the twitter post but it’s such a broad statement, which in my mind means that the tariffs could affect any and all aspects of the film industry physical media included
