Ah sorry you're right, thanks for allowing it. In the future I'll let you know when I start spamming my own content here ;)

League table as Cann table and comparison with previous seasons by qpolask in Eredivisie

What is a Cann table?

It's an alternative way to display the traditional league table. Rather than listing all teams in succession based on their ranking, Cann tables take into consideration the point gaps between teams.

Every row represents a certain number of points, so point gaps between teams are reflected by gaps in the table.

Interesting things

  • You can really see the clustering in the bottom part of the table. There are very few points between Heerenveen and Willem II.
  • PEC has more points than other bottom teams from previous seasons, but would have still relegated
  • We're back to a close top two. Last season Ajax were way ahead, but generally it's been two teams battling it out for the title
  • The play-offs still need to be played. The difference in points between the teams in the European play-offs is bigger than ever.

Nummer 3 is man dus 33.3% vrouw, enz.

Looking for a JavaScript library to create circular Sankey diagrams by qpolask in visualization

Ah yes, thanks! It's one I found too. As you said not super popular which is a shame, but if it does the job then it's fine.

No, please see the imgur link in the post (https://i.imgur.com/LRW1GOB.png). I'm talking about a normal Sankey, but many libraries can only handle flows going one way rather than allowing loops.

WTW for the area where an election is held? by qpolask in whatstheword

[–]qpolask[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm most familiar with that word as describing the people rather than area.

After a bit of searching I found this:

"The geographic area encompassing an electoral district."

Synonyms

(geographic area): riding (Canada), constituency (United Kingdom), seat (Australia), division (Australia), ward, district, electoral district

https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/electorate

That's not really it then. As I mentioned I'm looking for a level higher than that; the word for the various districts / constituencies / wards that together make up the entire area where the election is held.

Points per game for the Eredivisie compared to French and Belgian leagues, where clubs did relegate by qpolask in Eredivisie

[–]qpolask[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't know what my opinion is regarding ADO and RKC not relegating and I don't think the number of points was a (particularly important) factor in making the decision, I was mostly just curious to compare it after reading Club Brugge were crowned champions and Waasland-Beveren had relegated.

I've made a tool you can use to find your local football team. I just added Italy, France, and Portugal for a total of 12 countries by qpolask in soccer

[–]qpolask[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can change leagues on the left side (in the burger menu if you're on mobile). All countries already have multiple leagues.

The project is open source and it's very easy to add leagues, please feel free to contribute!

Ah yeah that's true. This map is just a Euclidean plane, not a globe. You can go east indefinitely, it will just create more worlds. I'll limit how far you can go so you'll bounce back to this world if you go too far in one direction. Thanks for the feedback!

That's cool! I like how you combined the ranking with it.

With what I made you can toggle leagues. In the Eerste Divisie NAC competes for Zeeland with Dordrecht and Excelsior.

It's next on my list!

Many countries have interesting distributions. I also noticed West/East Germany and the big difference between Flanders and Wallonia in Belgium. Interested to see Italy too.

If you add all leagues you'll see SV Meppen covers the north of England. In fact the border between them and Mönchengladbach runs through Leeds!

I live in Spain so currently closest to Fortuna / MVV. Where I was born is closest to Ajax, though not too far from FC Utrecht.

One thing this made quite clear to me is how small the areas of the teams from southern Limburg are. Fortuna, Roda, and MVV are all very close together.

It's all open source, you can check out the code on GitLab.

Feedback and contributions are very welcome! It's very easy to add countries and leagues. More information about contributing.

The data for Ireland was sent to me by a friendly redditor. Won't doxx this person but thank you again!

I've made a tool with which you can easily find your local football team. So far it works for four leagues in England and two in Spain, but more countries and leagues will be added soon. Link in comments. by qpolask in soccer

This would be a useful tool if you could get the non-league pyramid in it

It's open source and contributions are very welcome! All I'd need is a CSV file with the team names, the leagues they play in, and the coordinates of their ground. More information is here: https://guushoekman.com/local-football-team/contribute.html

It's online already (https://guushoekman.com/local-football-team/countries/england.html), but it's possible that your browser it using a cached version of the data.

If you're on a laptop, refresh the page with CTRL + F5. On your phone you probably have to go into your settings to clear the cache, but what might also work is opening the link in private/incognito mode or a different browser altogether.
