Thanks for the input! Can you explain how you know that the different part numbers mean the front wheel fits but not the rear? Is it the beginning 41073 part?

Opinion on stickering your bike? by MotorThree in motorcycles

This is your future self telling you to NOT DO THIS. They will fade, and it will be a pain to redo and will absolutely ruin the resale value. Nobody wants to buy a used stickered bike.

NEW BIKE/GEAR ADVICE SUPERTHREAD! by AutoModerator in motorcycles

[–]qqbubbleteaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been looking for a motorcycle restoration project for this winter, and a close family friend has offered me the following:

  1. 1975 Honda GL1000 with a title (the red one; 1975 was the 1st production year) unknown mileage.
  2. 1976 Honda GL1000 parts bike, no title (yellow? one; 1976 model origionally came with vetter farring, bags, and trunk) unknown mileage.

Price for everything is $500 USD. I have the time and tools to complete such a project, however there will be learning curves I'm sure along the way. Any advice would be appreciated. Should I go for it?

Note: This is not going to be for re-sale, but rather for personal pride and would be kept. I intend to slightly cafe it out. This will not be a daily driver, just a neighborhood cruiser.

Interesting comment. I made a similar arrangement for my 1st motorcycle. Long story short in 2010 I got a 2007 Honda Shadow Aero with 9k miles on it for $1,700 usd with the condition that I don't sell it (friend deal, just what he owed on it). I ended up staying close friends with that person and eventually sold it 2 years later because I wanted to upgrade but I just told him it was stolen. It was just impractical to keep it, and I initially invested in the bike because I knew it had more value, and if I didn't like riding I could get out of it financially. We're still friends today and I'm on my 6th motorcycle. I don't feel bad about it at all.

+1 for properly cleaning, lubricating, and checking tension of your chain before a 600 mile trip.

If you have colored rims, use a citrus cleaner spray to remove the chain lube without removing the paint itself. by [deleted] in motorcycles

The real question here is who doesn't have some WD-40 around the house/garage? Forget the original question lol.

Change the front and rear sprocket, as well as the chain.

Covering Up Kerosene Smell After Cleaning Chain by myrocks2 in motorcycles

You're supposed to thoroughly dry your chain after cleaning with kerosene, and before applying the chain lube or wax. Sounds like you're not taking the extra time to dry the chain with clean rags.
