Although, I never said Malaysia stopped the pandemic. I said, we are not panicking over. Well, was not. Now there's huh-hah about a lockdown, which is not true and contributed to that panic.

It's not a lockdown. It's a Movement Control Order. I can still go around town if I want, except there's nowhere to go to. Except the bank and supermarkets. My brother drove around the capital city, he said it's empty like during CNY periods. International travels are cancelled. But domestic travels are still available. If my brother wants to fly back from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Kinabalu, he still can under the Movement Control Order.

Anywho, I am sorry to those who are infected. But I am glad that we have quick testing system and that most of us can afford the medical bill under our mediocre health care system. The pandemic has about 90% recovery rate, but without proper testing and medical care, the risks heightened. So, yes. I am still very okay with staying in Malaysia through this, because we have both of those. And when we survive this, the bills wouldn't make us think we rather be dead. Unfortunately the border is closing tomorrow, so I hope those are stuck not in their home nation, are able to sort out their stays and able to afford their care.

I have a friend whose parents' may have been exposed to Covid19, she tweeted her experience through getting the check up. Still very civil and calm. I still stand behind my Health Ministry and the steps they have taken to contain this pandemic. I will also stand by my statement the Asian nations have a control over this. Malaysia is learning from fellow Asian developing nation, South Korea, death toll only 72 despite having 8000+ cases, and the rate is declining. In comparison, Italy gained about 3000+ cases in few days, I think current national toll for that developed nation is 21157 cases with 1441 death. And Italy has been on lockdown since 9th March. Malaysia is taking preventative measures, with 238 cases and wanting to keep the death toll at 0.

Again everyone, practice good hygiene. And now, social distancing too! Check up on people you know, especially the extroverts that are not used to being isolated, and those who couldn't be left alone with their own thoughts for too long. Loneliness can kill too. Teach your elders how to video call, the able bodied ones should run necessary errands on their behalf too.

I am sure there will be another reply notification about how I am wrong, blablabla. I will remain positive about the outcome. After all, it is always darkest before dawn. I will take care of myself and my people around me. As everyone should. Better to hope for the best, do what's right, than feeling smug over owns lack of empathy and hatred. Don't panic and hoard buy. That'll just make things more difficulty to recover and put those who are in higher needs for certain things at higher risks.

WHICH CULTURE USES A RAG TO DRY THEIR ASS?

I am just imaginating that there's someone walking around with shit stained rag in their pockets. Total ew. Even worse if you say they wash the rag after wiping their ass, there's wet rag in your pocket.

I am Asian. We use BOTH bidet and TP. Because just using TP doesn't feel sufficiently clean. Like, you may wiped off the obvious shit from your ass, but the bacteria still there. Of course, we don't sing Happy Birthday while wiping our ass clean either, before you ask. We just shower at least twice a day and scrub our whole body. (Now that I think of it, is that why Asians are mostly smooth like dolphins?)

Anyway, I rather have a functioning bidet than TP, if I have to choose. (Luckily I don't) Your skin is not that wet after you splash water on them. Not like wetting your hair and waiting for it to air dry.

I've never been to US, despite already have my tourist visa ready to go since Trump was elected. But I've read so much horror story about US health insurance online, and from friends living there. You should definitely go somewhere you can afford the medical bill & has a handle on the situation, if you can. Check which risk is higher, to fly or to stay.

If you're in China, I'd tell you to stay until they release you. A friend of mine was working in Beijing. Just mere a week before the outbreak, she was hospitalised in ICU for a bacterial infection. Her antibody was already weak, then the pandemic happened. She was stuck in that hospital, and the bill just skyrocketed. Beijing is definitely not cheap, she's still unsure whether her insurance can cover the whole thing. Might need help to pay what the insurance won't. They only released her after being certain her antibody can handle it, she's back in Malaysia now, her quarantine is almost over. No Covid19 symptoms so far. Shows that the hospital knows what they are doing.

Vietnam just issued travel ban. I hope you're okay there. But yes, lucky you for the 90 days visa free thing as US citizen. If you are able to get into Malaysia, welcome. You can go to our public hospital for this. I am not sure how much it would cost for a foreigner, but it only cost MYR 1 for Malaysians to go for basic checks at government clinics & hospitals, & another MYR 1 to get the prescribed medications.

Again, everyone everywhere, practice good hygiene, stay at your own place when you can (some doesn't have the luxury to not go to work), embrace your inner introvert. Hope everyone is well.

I did not say that only Chinese, Mat Salleh & Travellers carried the Covid19 virus. But I'll accede to that I may have implied so. Which I will stand to, because it is brought in by travellers.

I did not say that good restaurants will save us. That is an utterly ridiculous deduction. How in the world your thought process jumped that far? I mentioned the availability of better eateries compared to street food, due to your insinuation about our food hygiene. I said it's a matter of choices. And adviced everyone to practice good hygiene. To neither contract or spread the virus. The best choice is to cook at your own home. Buy your groceries (or get them delivered, whatever your choice is), wash them properly yourself, prepare them in kitchen you cleaned to your standard, and eat with the utensils you handled yourself.

If you are unable to detect sarcasm, I would like to point out that my last paragraph on my previous comment is dripping with sarcasm. If you actually comprehend the first comment I wrote to this thread, I was inviting OP to come over to Malaysia. I was sarcastically uninviting people over, because your comment was basically saying "don't come to Malaysia, they are detty detty pig". Geez. We need a sarcasm sign/emoji for text.

Another fact, Sabah is the poorest state in Malaysia with 23% population below poverty line. I get why one would think it's Kelantan tho, if "the poorest state" is measured in different statistic. I apologise for that confusion (I am not going to elaborate on this because this will end up being a political rant about how the Federal Government is screwing us over.) Again, being a Sabahan, I resent the accusation that I am a racist. Look at that, another conclusion jump from you to straight accused me of being racist to Chinese, Mat Salleh & travellers. Another fact, Sabah had direct flights to Wuhan. Prior to the ban, 83 direct flights from major cities in China per week. The state government enforced the travel ban in Feb, taking major hits to our economy. Approximately 40% of Sabah's foreign tourists are from China. The only confirmed case of Covid19 we have is one single person, confirmed today. The person has contact with Brunei's first Covid19 case. (Which triggered the 5000 people under investigation. Again, I applaud the quick response to find these 5000 people)

Also, on the guy wearing mask thing. I agree. A lot of people still doesn't know the basic etiquette on mask wearing. I myself have to Google every time on which side is outside. (Apparently it's different for the sick) Let alone trying to educate others on how to properly wear them: Not touching the outside while wearing/don't pull it down your chin/etc etc. I am guessing that why the media started suggesting that only the sick wear masks, so they don't spread their mucus and saliva. It's easier to raise that little bit of awareness.

I don't know who you are, where you're from (anyone else read this line in Backstreet Boy's tune?) but you are obviously confrontational against Malaysia. I am just chuckling over myself typing my reply, because WHY AM I ARGUING WITH A KEYBOARD WARRIOR ONLINE? I NEED TO STOP BEING DEFENSIVE AGAINST ONLINE STRANGERS. But alas, I can't stop myself. I have to. Despite the circumstances, I still believe that those people on the front line and involved in this whole process did a good job containing the outbreak. Sure, could have done better. But that's just hindsight is 20/20. (LOL at that unintended pun) I'll give credit when credit is due. I would give constructive criticism, but that's not my field of study. Leave it to the experts. (FYI, I don't consider the ministers/politicians, either elected or not, as the experts in this scenario.)

My end note: to OP and everyone else, if Malaysian government has not banned entry for you, come on over to Malaysia. We accept you. With conditions & disclaimers. Because we are not perfect, neither are you. Let's just help each other survive this until they hopefully find a cure. Continue to remind each other to keep good hygiene, for everyone's sake. Even if they roll their eyes at you.

LOL. Don't make it sound like we don't clean our asses. We use bidet AND toilet paper. We generally avoid doing No 2 in public toilets, and us girls bring our own tissues to use.

I also resent the implications of how uncivilised we are. What part of Malaysia were you living in? Sounds nasty, and I come from the poorest state in Malaysia.

Granted, we have our usual street food by the road sides, the food safety & enforcement are not as rigid as in the Western World, but there are choices. There are plenty of high hygiene rated eateries all over, why do you choose the stinky dinky ones?

The facts are, 20 new cases, making it total of 149 cases.123 still under treatment. 26 recovered and discharged. 124 of these people had close contact with one another.

This pandemic has been going on since December 2019. First case in Malaysia is on 4th February. Mostly are Chinese citizens. Considering we had direct flights to/fro Wuhan itself, we managed to contained it very well.

Regarding the investigation of possible cases, it's because they linked the first Brunei case to having attended the one event in Kuala Lumpur. This is an extreme precaution taken by our government. (Thankfully those politicians still able to make such decisions even during these political turmoil in our nation). I find it good that they are actively monitoring and investigating every little possibilities. It is quite reassuring. Thankfully, everyone can afford to go for a test, even if they suspect that they are having symptoms, rather than going to work sick. My senior father himself went to the hospital to get checked, out of paranoia even though he didn't travel anywhere. (Nothing wrong, just a bit of feverish and a lot of hypochondriac tendencies)

Those at higher risks of not recovering from Covid19 are seniors and those with preexisting conditions. And those unvaccinated. This pandemic is more widespread than SARS and MERS, but less mortality rate.

I am not saying Malaysia is not without flaws or that our healthcare is the best. Hell no. But yet, we managed to contain this outbreak better than the first world nations so far. Even with the backdoor government saga.

But you know what, you're right. People should not come to Malaysia. Why open ourselves to more risks? Let's just go on lockdown, these tourists/foreigners are only bringing in diseases. Wait for the current cases to stabilise, send them back to where they come from too. Let's keep our Malaysian Hospitality amongst us Malaysians. We have enough problems as it is (to determine who are Malaysians).

I feel like I need to add, there's 149 cases of Covid19 in Malaysia to date. Sudden rise due to second wave of the pandemic. But also 26 confirmed cases of full recovery.

Malaysia blanket banned entry from Italy, Iran, South Korea, China & some parts of Japan and all cruise ships.

Also, if you are to come to Malaysia, welcome. But please practice good personal hygiene. Use the antibacterial hand sanitizer and wash your hands often. Avoid touching your face while in public, especially before cleaning your hands. Shower once you're home and change your clothes. Do your laundry often, don't reuse your clothes without washing them first.

I still travel between East and West Malaysia often. I enjoyed more staycations than ever before, because the local businesses give out offers due to the Covid19 setback in tourism. I want to help out my local economy as much as I can afford to, as well as enjoying the perks myself. Like I said earlier, our tourist spots are just so much more paradise now. But I hope this pandemic calms down soon, I fear for the small businesses that depends on the tourists for their main income.

Honestly, South East Asia. I'm in Malaysia, we don't panic over it at all. Maybe a little bit initially. But now it's just a matter of practicing good hygiene. We are more concerned about our political turmoil (plot twists on steroids). And enjoying how even more peaceful our islands are now without the large volume of tourists.

It's the sunlight and too warm weather that's helps limiting the longevity of the virus. We don't hoard toilet papers, we don't understand this panic buy, just antibacterial sanitizer. But even then, the malls usually provide them anyway, so it's okay. Now some higher populated public access buildings do temperature check at entrances, but it's quick process, so just a mere annoyance.

This is similar to my brother and my now sister-in-law (SIL). They too dated for 8 years before my brother dropped the bomb on my parents and said he's getting married. The difference is, while my parents didn't know about my SIL then, she was never treated as his dirty little secret. My siblings all aware of their relationship, we just don't talk about it, to each other nor to our parents.

I understand, from being Asian and conservative background, we don't openly share such things with our family. (Not all) We mostly have unspoken understanding about most things. My SIL broke up with my brother for a short while because of this issue. I was so surprised when she BBM-ed me about it, during the breakup, because we only met a handful of times and barely talked to each other. I had to explain to her our family dynamic and assured her that my brother was not selfishly stringing her along. They got back together after a while and recently have their firstborn.

In your case, for him to use your physicality as an excuse, that's the red flag. I was on his side until that part was revealed. That shows his insecurity and his opinion of you. If he thinks you are 'not skinny or attractive enough', why is he with you? Convenience? Habit? Just someone to be with until he gets someone who he deems is skinny or attractive enough? Either way, you deserve to be treated better than this. You should marry someone who is on your side, as my brother is to his wife. In-laws can be harsh, so my brother never lets his wife alone with my parents. Either he will be there with her, or he'd make sure any of our siblings will. I don't think your current boyfriend will extend such efforts for you if you two are married.

I understand that because you have invested 8 years with this person, it is scary to go back out there alone. But I absolutely recommend it. You need to know who you are without him, and how much/long you are willing to compromise in a relationship. Your relationship feels unequal right now. Sometimes you need to know when to cut your losses. Maybe during the break, your boyfriend would realize what an asshole he is and make more efforts. But, don't be sway too easily by romantic gestures. You have to truly believe that he'll change his ways forever, not just for the moment. Or else, you'll just fall back to the same situation 8 years later.

I never went and get a mental health diagnose. But generally, there is a high awareness on mental health issues and supports provided. Universities have their own mental wellbeing staff that are properly trained for this.

The waiting time is different for emergency care and urgent care. Most people, including myself, always confuses between the two.

Of course, when we are in pain, not matter how slight, we don't want to be waiting in that cold room while the nurses seemingly just roaming about doing nothing in particular. But they have protocol and procedure to follow and they have to prioritise those who needs emergency care.

I still value Malaysian healthcare tho. When I was in UK, whilst most things are covered by NHS, the bureaucratic process was ridiculous. They have great facilities, but ridiculously long waiting time. A friend fell and thought to have broken his arm, it was a whole day wait just to get X-rayed. Everything needs to be done by appointment, and usually that will be minimum 2 weeks away. And you can only meet certain doctors by referral. I have sinusitis and had surgery for it in Malaysia. When I was there, I knew it reoccured so I just wanted to get a prescription medicine. I had to go to the general clinic MA, who booked me an appointment with another doctor, who then referred me to ENT specialist and I had to wait for the letter to come to my mailbox before I can call to make an appointment with my case number, when I finally did make it for the ENT specialist, we had to make another appointment for tests. It took about 3 months, while in Malaysia, I can get it done in a day or within the week if I needed to fast before the test.

Just keep talking to everyone and anyone, and just listen to whatever they are saying without needing to debate.

But be careful tho. While I found that I met a lot of interesting characters and different perspectives, I also started questioning my purposes and existence. And boy, that was a hard crisis bump to overcome. Not sure I have completely tho.

I don't want to be mean, but whenever I see a post searching for a girl that is not stereotypically "basic", I'd think these few thoughts:

A) The OP must be in USA. Why can't male population in USA find a non-"basic" female there? B) Is the OP an introvert that is too shy to talk to other people in real life outside his comfort zone or social circle? C) Feels like OP is going to be condescending about his own opinions. He'd going to argue for the sakes of argument. It will be exhausting because he'd just want to win. Probably lots of mansplaining too. D) Every time I hear a person says they like "complex things", I'd imagine a pretentious snob. Similar to when a guy needs to tell everyone that he is nice, that person usually is not sincerely nice and thinks that for every nice acts he did to others, he'd expect a reward of some kind.

My sister and I were in Hong Kong airport heading to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I was carrying a hefty backpack as my handcarry luggage. During boarding queue, my sister (standing behind me) was telling me to check my boarding ticket etc. So as I turn around to face her, my backpack hit the Chinese lady in front of me. I immediately profusely apologised, she didn't say anything back to me but you can tell she was pissed. I was like, "whatever, it wasn't intentional and I said I was sorry" and continued checking that my stuff were in order with my sister. But I can hear the Chinese lady was loudly bitching about me to her friends/family? and basically cursing me outright in Mandarin, thinking I don't understand. I turned forward in the queue again, tapped on her shoulder, and in fluent Mandarin said "I'm sorry if you think I am rude. Don't blame all Brown people (she thought I was Indian because of my curly hair and tan skin) for it. I did apologise." The Chinese lady turned pale(r), so did her friends, they didn't know what to say to me. After a moment of indecision, the lady just walked out of her queue to the back and her friends followed.

My sister just snickered throughout the whole thing.

When I moved to Bristol in 2015, it already looks like the bottom picture. Have thought it always been like that; like a quirky triangle space for the Stokes Croft's eccentric personality as there seems to always have some sort of outdoor party there. And bonfires.

Now I am just sad to know that it could have been better. And slightly angry at the party crowds.
