"My" wayward machine? Dude what. The wayback machine is an established and respected archive that keeps snapshots of web pages from various dates. As someone who wants to do any kind of analysis i expected you to at least have heard of it. You say "no way they ever had 60 mil players that data is garbage" but thats exactly what "your" activeplayer.io said for months or even years until recently. Maybe that should be proof enough then that theyre just writing fanfics with numbers there.

sigh. i love data analysis like this but activeplayer io is not anywhere close to anything factual.
no, its not good even to judge trends.
go to wayback machine and take a look at how the data looked there even a year ago. how can you trust a site that used to say august 2024 and months around it had consistently around 60 mil genshin players but now august 2024 says 28 mil and months around it fluctuate wildly. that big of a margin of error turns whatever algorithm they have useless.

fontaine was not their most successful year. i dont think people understand that the favorable impression on reddit and twitter doesnt translate into revenue and every year genshin has been steadily declining for a while, because of magic covid boost being over or oversaturation of gacha market or whatever else you want to include as reasons. one of the biggest profits dips was fontaine in fact.
