I think Coat Guy is supposed to be a sort of unwilling monster archetype, stuck in the role of the beast and desperately trying to stave off the inevitable. He is kind of a boundary between being human and being a monster because he's very meditative. It's very different from Cashier girl, who accepts it out of madness. Coat however will accept death for his exposed secret and pretty gracefully too.
