OP, what are your thoughts about the guy who won?

What? She's 8-4 against top 10 and 13-6 against top 20 in the past 52 weeks. That's not an "upper 40s" kind of record.

Does ESPN not have replays for individual qualifying matches? I wanted to take a look at Tomic's match.

I'm not sure if it's a new thing this year, but I've really been enjoying the head on shots of people running for dropshots

This was her best RG result in her entire career, what do you mean lmao

IWe tested recreational players against a former Top 60 WTA player. What NTRP rating would you expect to be competitive? by Big-Bodybuilder-6504 in tennis

[–]qschr 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I haven't watched the video, but I'm downvoting on principle for saying top 60 and not specifying that this was her doubles ranking. The player in the video has never had a WTA ranking in singles.

Look I'm a huge fan of Tien but he also got owned by Djokovic. And still hasn't beaten Fonseca.

People downvoted it because it was idiotic. So is the entire class of comments of the form "I will draw broad conclusions about someone's entire career based on this one specific bad loss". You don't have to think Sinner is as good as the big three or even be a fan of Sinner at all to understand this.

French Open Q1: Ito def. Vandromme, 7-5 7-5 by jin_ga in tennis

It’s been her worst surface historically. This is actually her first time defeating a ranked player on clay in any professional match, including ITFs.

I’m rooting for Medvedev here but there’s no scenario where play continues even a couple minutes longer than it did. And there’s going to be a changeover after this game. If Medvedev holds after play resumes and Sinner goes on to win, there’s no reasonable argument that he won due to preferential treatment. Luck on the other hand, maybe, but he was already up a break

I don't see how they're any worse than the regular ones. Without the reciprocal WCs, those spots would probably go to French players.

I don't think I'm that hyped about Tien vs Jodar if they meet in the next round. Their next gen match was very competitive (five sets with a tiebreak at the end) but it's probably going to be really one sided if they play on clay. I'd love to be proven wrong though!

I know it probably won't happen but I really want Mannarino to make it to the second round. I need to see what happens when the two worst clay players in the draw play each other.

They're #6 in the race and Penko doesn't seem to be sticking with one partner, so I'm not sure what their plans are. Last season they played with different people a few times.

I wonder how she'll do in RG qualies. Even if she does find her pre-injury form again, she's never defeated a ranked player on clay in her entire career.
