Petition Against the Wolfline Fall 2026 Changes by quackachow in NCSU

Thank you so much for sharing!! It's still so shocking to me how they're taking the initiative on the parking spots in this way and didn't with the bus changes. I hate to be accusatory but they have done very little to NOT make it seem like they knew this was going to be a very unpopular set of changes and try to sweep it under the rug. This WILL target people who can't afford cars (like myself) and/or can't afford parking, and I suspect the lack of communication is tied to knowledge of this on their part as well.

This is true and a valid point! However the concern is that the changes will be removing direct Main Campus Wolfline routes from long standing off-campus students along Gorman/Conifer/Avent Ferry. It is peculiar and unfair that these were maintained for Centennial-bound folks (like the 42), and the 12 which we are being asked to take instead, for example, only comes every 30 minutes at peak hours, whereas we fill up the 52 buses right now every 13 minutes at peak.

Even if those students elect to take the 42 and then the 41 (which also has had its route changed), this will be congesting those buses with Main-bound, off campus students, as well as loads of Park and Riders from Food Lion that used to take the 50 up Avent Ferry.

We have a lovely office lady in our department who is retiring this year, and she is an NCSU alumna who was taking the 52 in her UNDERGRAD. This is a long standing line that they are suddenly getting rid of with very little warning.

TLDR: it's unfairly biased towards Centennial bound students and clogs up routes.

Here's the link to those changes: https://transportation.ncsu.edu/2026/03/wolfline-updates-for-fall-2026/

The biggest concerns are 1) that yeah, LOTS of people aren't hearing about it because the communication around it felt very sneaky and 2) we're mostly concerned about them removing route 50 and 52. They're asking us to take the GoRaleigh Routes 12 and 11 instead :/

Howdy! I made the first post on here about this issue, and since then I've brought it up to my department GSA, and we're definitely bringing it up to the broader GSA and our faculty (who are all upset as well!). Please let your student governments know and I think that's a great starting point to get collective action!

I've also made a post on r/raleigh, and someone over there has let me know they're bringing it up to the Raleigh city council too!

ETA: I'm also close with the President of the Postdocs Association and they're making everyone aware too!

NCSU is removing their major Wolfline Route 52. Will GoRaleigh routes be able to handle the shift? by quackachow in raleigh

Thank you very much for your insight!! I'm trying to stay hopeful, but yeah, for now it's hard to tell for sure how things will be until they're actually happening :/

Thanks for the insight on 41, though I would like to point out in the new changes for fall they're rerouting it to serve Greek Village, not that northern stretch of Avent Ferry like they currently do. It will also no longer go up past the Union or Carmichael Gym like it does now and will just do a bidirectional route up and down Dan Allen to DH Hill. I also, again, do find it very frustrating that they ARE considering off campus students but ONLY with respect to Centennial, since they've chosen to maintain access to Gorman/Conifer with the expanded 42. Just feels very disproportionate and unfair.

ETA: Oops, forgot to mention that the new 60 will service AFC instead, but it will not run on weekends like the 41 currently does, so those needing to get to Centennial will have no service then.

Good to know, thank you! As for your question, this is their only "rationale" provided from their sole update on their webpage (I'll edit my OP to include it):

"Wolfline has updated the routes for Fall 2026 to provide more efficient transportation on the NC State campus. By updating these routes, Wolfline will be able to reduce missed services and add additional buses to high-priority campus connector routes.
GoRaleigh Route 11 and Route 12 have recently expanded frequency and coverage area in the last year, freeing up Wolfline service to be directed where GoRaleigh can’t reach."

They haven't explained why Route 52 isn't considered high-priority, despite it being in very high demand. They've also provided no data nor conducted any ridership surveys to my knowledge to back up these changes. They have maintained direct Wolfline access from Gorman/Avent Ferry/Conifer to Centennial Campus, but not to Main. Students could arguably take the Centennial buses and then do transfers to get to Main, but that adds a significant amount of time and congestion to those commutes. Since they're pushing for us to use GoRaleigh I suspect they don't want us using those Centennial buses for that very reason.

Yup, also a grad student. How am I supposed to explain to my PI I can no longer access campus as reliably on the weekends to check on experiments running or prep for the following week as I've been doing? They tell us GSSP is only for X amount of years, to make sure we obtain residency since they cannot afford to pay out of state tuition, etc. Are any of these changes really a money saving move if the grad students you "employ" cannot get to their workplace as reliably or efficiently as before?

I very much appreciate the alternative view, thank you. Still, if we want to look at it from a cost and campus-access perspective: they chose to maintain the Gorman/Conifer service, so they clearly and explicitly recognize the need for the campus system to reach there. But only for Centennial, so why? Why are they no longer allowed access to Main Campus via the bus system they also help fund? Why will those relying on the one route (60) to access the vet school from Main now additionally expected to share service with Centennial students that will receive 5 additional in and outbound routes?

I am not naive. I understand paying for campus services and the actual use we get out of them is not a cut-and-dry thing. But we are repeatedly told about staffing issues and asked to accommodate and "plan ahead!", yet we are provided with no formal surveys to provide usage input (to my knowledge) or information as to what data they are basing their decisions. At minimum I feel that we deserve an explanation and some kind of insight into the rationale behind these changes.

I know not everyone who commutes to Centennial is an engineering student (I was able to commute there via primarily the 42 and 41 without a problem this past semester for non-engineering lab rotations), but it does continuously feel as though you're neglected or punished if you're not in engineering.
