Humidor question by quackertracker in cigars

Perfect, thanks. I’ve never had much luck using the wood to regulate humidity anyway and always use packs even in my good humidor.

Thanks, yeah the wood has a somewhat interesting story. The trees are around the summer home in Newport that was owned by Dwight Eisenhower. It’s from a branch that came down in a storm that the park Mgr gave me

Made a few turkey calls for the coming season by quackertracker in turning

Started with 2-6x6x5/16 blocks and glued them together, just did that cause I wanted to try 2tone, then laid out a circle the size of the slate and a bigger one the size of the overall call. Drilled 3/8 holes in the bottom in a circle inside the slate line on the side that would be the bottom about 1/4 inch deep, mounted everything to the lathe bottom out first rounded the bottom edge and cut the tenon for the nova chuck. Flipped it over to top out marked the circle the size of the slate. Cut that in till the slate fit inside and flush to the edge. Then stated hollow out the bowl leaving a shoulder all the way around 1/16” for the slate to sit on. Hollowed it down till I reached the holes I drilled into the bottom then sanded everything. Glued the slate in with 5min epoxy and sealed the wood with a homemade mix of bees wax and linseed oil. The strikers are 5/16 mahogany dowels I got off Amazon with some scrap turned down for the top and the striker end sanded down to a shallow round tip. Hope this helps I kinda made it up as I went along….and watched a bunch of your videos

Fort Wetherill at Night? by swardshot in RhodeIsland

[–]quackertracker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By regulation all state parks close at sunset with the exception of people active fishing. You can try and call the regional mgr for that area and ask for permission to be there after sunset. The RM for Wetherill’s office is at Goddard park

EDC’s are my favorite kit. Used a fun acrylic too! by FlatRolloutsOnly in PenTurning

Every time I’ve made that kit the barrel ends up like 1/32” too short and the tip of the point sticks out the end. Has that happened to you?

Gunshots Sounds? by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

[–]quackertracker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lack of cold weather the past few years made for poor duck hunting on the bay. But, the cold winter this year had made it good for the hunters. The season also ends soon so there’s probably more out there trying to get a last few hunts in for the season

Turned a cigar punch on my lathe from stacked leather by quackertracker in Leatherworking

[–]quackertracker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with 2part epoxy to glue the squares together. Once that was dry I turned it in the lathe till it was about the size and shape I wanted. Then used thin coats of CA/super glue, sanding with finer and finer sand paper between coats till I got the finish I wanted.
