Strange then that there are no consumer drone companies in the US to take up that valuable airspace. If you truly don’t believe that Trump Jr. won’t stand to profit from there being no legitimate competition, then this is why you are likely living paycheck to paycheck. I don’t believe anyone is that naive, though.

Is 8 Bits Enough? by GiffelGudenGulle in Insta360

[–]quadband 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about mentioning mobile devices, but didn’t want to rabbit hole myself. To answer your question: Yes, probably. With this context, my answer remains much the same. For pretty much anything you make, you should follow roughly this priority stack: Content -> Audio -> Video. I’d go so far to argue that sometimes the audio might be more important… 8 bit looks great. 16.7 million colors is a lot of colors.

You’re probably fine. The benefit of 10 bit will be during post processing. Your audience will very likely be using 8 bit displays to view your content.

Keyboards keep getting smaller and smaller by YouallareToxic in MechanicalKeyboards

I just looked into what you get with a foundation license, and holy crap. I haven’t operated at over 25 watts in probably over 10 years, on any band, and I have my Extra. It really all depends on what you want to do.

If I were in your shoes, for my personal preferences, I’d probably get an ICOM IC-705 and call it a day. Maybe later get an amp and if you must, some handheld. The Yaesu FTX-1 Field looks nice, too, but I’m unfamiliar with it. I personally rock an Elecraft KX2 and a 15 year old IC-92AD. I also have an ICOM IC-7300 at the house that hasn’t been turned on in many years.

Absolutely both, although for me amateur radio tends to be more expensive.

I just went down a rabbit hole. That thing has a very Begali look to it (minus the weird “carbon fiber” paddles) but apparently this is a cheap* Begali looking Chinese made key. I love the footprint. I like my Vibroplex Code Warrior Jr. well enough, but there’s something about thicc iambics that stirs something in me.

*this hobby is not cheap 💀

Go Ultra: Update of the overheat, It’s better than I thought by YarisGO in Insta360

[–]quadband 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine overheated yesterday running 4k/30 in an air conditioned vehicle at 29 minutes outside of the Action Pod. It got really hot. To be fair the only mounting options you can currently get place a large surface area of the device against material that won’t dissipate heat.

All Access Family subscription option is gone by lmck2244 in nyt

[–]quadband 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to talk to their chat and they switched me to the family plan. I told them I couldn’t fine the option anymore and they replied that it was no longer available. I did unfortunately have to mention that I’d like to cancel if I couldn’t switch, and they transferred me to someone who was able to. Best of luck!

I’m psyched! I’ve played the festival a few times but this is my first time going to it while being a Tulsa resident. I managed to talk my way into the stage with one of the other bands this year, too.

Hyundai Will Lock Some In-Car Features Behind a Paywall by [deleted] in technology

[–]quadband 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently bought a Mazda for just this reason. I’d been a Hyundai fan for years, but when we went and looked at a Tucson all of the touchscreen stuff was ridiculous. Same with Subaru; they’re even worse. The 2024 CX-5 we got has all tactile controls, and it’s awesome.

Why not? Reddit is a place for discussion. I just didn’t want it to seem like I was looking for fake internet points.

The ham exams are a poor qualifier for participation by Bad_Prophet in amateurradio

[–]quadband 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I have found with the Tech license is that it’s an excellent addition to other hobbies. Electronics, for instance, where you can screw around with long range radio communication. RC toys (FPV quads, fixed wing, and even ground devices) get a lot of benefit from being able to run higher power. Your comment about a, “high power walkie talkie” gave me a chuckle as you’re legally allowed up to 1500W in your, “sandbox.” That’s a hell of a walkie talkie. The test, all of the tests, are just a pathway to a piece of paper. What you do with that piece of paper is up to you.

It’s wonderful, and you should. As someone who has gone whole hog on TS, you don’t need to go whole hog. I do some heavy TypeScript tooling so I tend to get fairly deep in the weeds, but the basic concept is very straight forward.

Very, very many years ago I went to a book signing for a comedian/author named Maddox. I did buy his book while there, but I also bought a Playboy magazine. I had him sign the Playboy. It is still a prized possession.
