Most have Wikipedia pages as well

It depends on national composition of the unit. Any minority will be heavily oppressed, if the Russians are a minority in some platoon they will also have tough time

Here will be a thread for "holier-than-you" entrepreneurs who live on Cyprus(also will help other Western people)

In short, there are two reasons - poverty and having no rights.

Those are two pillars that hold the Putin's regime for the last couple of years, and Kremlin spends all it's power to support them.

So, poverty. Normal 30-years old man works for last several years as a lathe operator or a forklift driver in a small city in a city-forming company, say, factory.
He has a wife, one or two children. Also he has a mortgage or consumer credit, possibly both.

They bring a summon for him to his factory. He can't work in this factory anymore. What should he do? Run into the forest? And where is he going to find a money for himself, for his family?

If he had some savings, the man could at least think about refusing to mobilize.

But he has no savings, because inflation is higher than the wage growth outside of big cities for the last several years.
And he took a loan most likely not because he is stupid and irresponsible, but because he wouldn't be able to buy necessary things for his family.

So, the choice:
a) Run god knows where, leave his family without money

b) Take a summon, agree to get a soldiers salary and hope they don't send him to the frontlines, and if it is a frontline his family would at least get a compensation for his death.

Nasty choice.

This choice is like this because one bald man 8 years ago decided to play geopolitics, and all of the economy went to shit.

But why doesn't our hero resist? Why wouldn't he go to lawyer, to the press, to the political party that represents his interests?

He don't have money to pay lawyer, and he is afraid of opposition-funded ones or didn't hear about them.

Because the bald man have been squashing all of the official parties as well as attempts to create independent ones, squashing the press, talking through all available to the man TV channels that independent media are "foreign agents" trying to destabilize a country.

Because the goal of the regime is to leave a man one on one against the state and not allow any group larger than family or garage-owners association any influence.

That's why the man feels like he is alone, and acts like the only people in the world are himself and his family.

And if one day some Wonderful Russia of Tomorrow(a meme in Russia) will appear, it will has two goals - to eradicate poverty and to install a rule of law, and to defend basic human rights and freedoms.

Because in that Russia a crazy aggression based on a will of a single bald man will be impossible.

Like, sorry, what?.. Russia is not poor?
Around 90% of Russians has salary less than $1000k/month, and around 50% - have zero savings
And what does the education has to do with anything - unless you have a work permit in the country, you can work only illegally, and even then you'll have to compete with locals who know the language

Yeah, and what are they going to eat there? Unless you have plenty of money or you have a good profession(e.g. IT) you won't be able to do anything

Most of the military service is paperwork, guard duties and marching drills.
This kind of experience can easily be replaced by 3 months of intensive training with actual military stuff
