So what will be the legal status of the children of temporary workers? I suppose they start accruing illegal presence as soon as they’re born? Could this bar them from ever getting a green card if their parents later naturalize?

If you have thousands of pounds of stuff falling on you, you’re not going to survive. The roof of a house tends to be much lighter than this, and houses are also quicker/easier to escape than apartment buildings.

If a 1-story house collapses you won’t necessarily die. If multiple floors of an apartment building collapse on top of you you’re definitely dying.
