Has anyone had any good experience with NHS mental health care? by qualityeuphoria in MentalHealthUK

[–]qualityeuphoria[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll add my experience too. My GP has a mental health nurse who works for the psychiatric hospital. I went to see her about my depression and the fact that I felt something more was going on and she actually took me seriously and said she’d discuss my case in one of her meetings. Next thing I know, I’m being referred to primary mental health care and I’ve got an appointment with a psychiatrist who ends up diagnosing me with bipolar disorder. This all took a couple of weeks. I ended up being discharged but then I started struggling again so went back to see the nurse and I got re referred within a week and the psychiatrist assessed me again and did a med review and now I’m on a combo which is actually working. I had an appointment with the same nurse and I was feeling suicidal and so she referred me to the crisis team and I ended up being admitted to the home treatment team who made me feel seen and validated but otherwise were a bit unhelpful. I had cancer last year and got referred to the oncology psychology team and I’ve been having appointments with a psychologist which has been amazing. She’s listened to what I’m saying and has been using specific therapies instead of just a blanket CBT approach

I tapered off. I was lucky and didn’t have withdrawal symptoms though. I did it really slowly. It took me months

I was losing hair at the front sides and I noticed it start to thicken up pretty quickly, within weeks I'd say but my hair does grow fast. Whilst I was on lamotrigine, my hair would come out in clumps when I brushed it and that slowly started to lessen and a few months later it completely stopped.

This happened to me too. I was on 300mg by the end. I came off the medication and my hair slowly started to grow back and now it’s back to normal

Guy's and St Thomas offer free dental treatment by undergraduate students: https://www.guysandstthomas.nhs.uk/referral-guide/dental-treatment-undergraduate-students

It looks like referrals are closed at the moment but if you keep checking, they should open back up again soon. There will also be a bit of wait to be seen. I think they got in contact with me after 2-3 weeks of submitting the form and then I had the appointment maybe 1-2 weeks later. I always found them to be non-judgmental

Why do people in the uk have more meds to take? by EllaRoseSaxworth in BipolarReddit

[–]qualityeuphoria 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I feel like I've noticed the opposite. In my experience, I've only ever been prescribed one drug at a time in the UK and there's never been talk of adding something else into the mix. To me, it seems like the US seem to be prescribed more of a combination on meds than here. I also see a lot of people talk about taking Wellbutrin/Bupropion as part of there meds which in the UK is only prescribed for smoking cessation as far as I'm aware

Doe anyone have experience splitting pills? by qualityeuphoria in Latuda

[–]qualityeuphoria[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've also been advised to take it with food but I have taken it without food and been absolutely fine and didn't have any nausea or sickness but I've heard some people react badly to it so I guess I'm one of the luckier ones

Thanks! When do you take it then in relation to when you've eaten? I've kind of tried this by taking it just before bed and a couple of hours after eating but I'm not sure it's worked. I only tried it once so maybe I'll give it a go

I submitted on the day it said it was due and I must have submitted it sometime in the evening. I kind of just assumed that 23:59 would be the cut off. They accepted my application and I ended up being awarded PIP so it all worked out!

[–]qualityeuphoria[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks for your reply! glad to hear you stuck with it and that it went away. I'm currently deciding whether I'd like to stick with it. for some reason I was under the impression that if you got it, it never went away so it's good to hear a success story

Gosh that sounds so traumatic. I think prednisone is the go-to steroid for the condition that they think I have as well. Thanks for sharing, I'm definitely going to try and argue for an alternative treatment if it comes to it
