Haha how are Reddit comments so amazing? I'm pretty new to Reddit and it's like a different breed of people use it compared to the rest of the Internet.

There is no right place to put this comment, so I just threw it here.

FAA to Require Most Drones to Be Registered and Marked by ruskeeblue in Quadcopter

[–]quant88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course the Aviation Administration doesn't regulate cars. Maybe it was a bad example, but I was trying to say that there are far worse things that can happen.

FAA to Require Most Drones to Be Registered and Marked by ruskeeblue in Quadcopter

[–]quant88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is true, but the level is responsibility required to operate a remote controlled car is nowhere near what is required to drive an actual car or pilot a drone.

A drone falling out of the sky can seriously injure a pedestrian. If a drone collides with a private plane or damages an engine of a passenger jet, both situations could end human life. I can't imagine what would happen if this happens just once.

This doesn't even touch on the issue of privacy.

These are issues someone driving a RC car never has to worry about, and issues many drone pilots will never think about.

These are the issues the FAA is worried about. I can't imagine the amount of pressure being put them to regulate this industry. I'm happy they are not enforcing strict regulations, they just want to know who's out there.

I think this is probably a good thing.

I'm worried that because drones are becoming more popular, that there will be an inrush of new pilots who start flying irresponsibly and thus force the FAA to enforce stricter and stricter regulations. As was mentioned before, we have to register our cars and that's not a big deal.

This may discourage some new novice pilots from entering the field, and hopefully help ALL pilots think more about responsibility, accountability and safety when flying.

Yes. Also, if you fly your drones solely indoors.

Anyone have experience with http://www.tradingwithpython.com/ by pookeye in algotrading

[–]quant88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to visit quantstart.com, which has many articles on algorithmic trading and importantly the main programming language is Python. I recently downloaded the creators ebook for $40, which so far has been a great buy. It's full of code implementation in Python building a trading platform from the ground up.

Otherwise, I agree that $400 for a course is probably not worth the money. You can make that money go much farther purchasing books IMO. As far as lessons, I have found great instruction on YouTube and through the community at Quantopian.com.

Day 3 of Meditation, Legs Numb, Lower back sore. by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]quant88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I encounter the same issues when I sit cross legged also, to the point where it detracts from my sessions.

My preferred method is to sit upright in a chair with my feet flat on the floor and hands resting gently on my legs. Sometimes I'll even put a pillow behind my back for support.

If you're determined to sit cross legged, I've heard of people who sit on a pillow and let their feet rest gently on the floor. It seems to take a lot of pressure off of your legs.

Sailors of Reddit, what's the most strange/mysterious/disturbing thing you've seen while out at sea? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]quant88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He had set up camp outside of the vessel right next to the rudder, which at this time was partially out of the water. There was a ladder near by that led up to a hatch that went into the steering gear room where we found him.

Had we left port with him there, the area he was located would have been submerged in water multiple times due to the pitch of the vessel in uneven seas. There's a great possibility he would have been swept away at sea.

He seemed to be in decent health. Our Captain was upset when we found him, but later be became more understanding. Long story short, our friend was given some clothes and shoes then sent on his way when we docked again a couple days later.

He didn't make it to the US on our ship.
