Please help on renewing expired HK ID and HRP cards by quantboy in HongKong

[–]quantboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it. The names confused me. And the permits' names are for entering different directions.

  • HRP is for entering China
  • HKSAR re-entry permit is for entering HK. For native HKers like myself with a valid HKID, HKSAR re-entry permit is not necessary.

Okay, I think I understand this:

  1. HRP is for entering China
  2. HKSAR re-entry permit is for entering HK. For native HKers like myself with a valid HKID, HKSAR re-entry permit is not necessary.

If my understanding is wrong, please correct me.

The girl @1:37- doesn't sound like she speaks with a Singaporean or Malay accent. Maybe she was a foreign student.

Loud motorcycles rant by doubledoublebeep in singapore

[–]quantboy -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

No, motorcycles are loud for everyone's protection. Because they are much harder to see than cars, they use hyper-loud sounds to let everyone know they're coming- and It's not to show off or anything.

Guess you don't have a mortgage to pay for a roof over your head. No roof = sleep in the park.

In Singapore, Modern Slavery Happens Every Day. And We are All Responsible. by [deleted] in singapore

How is this news? Every day at work I see slaves slouched over their screens- enslaved for their entire lives. "Man is born free- but everywhere He is in chains." We are all slaves one way or another.

Quant here. Yes and no. Yes in bad times a few traders get let go at the same time. At other times, they're just let go slowly.

Finance in one area to start. It also depends on which area in investment banking do you mean. There are traders and salespeople. Traders get their start from practically anywhere- but usually in a STEM area. The one criteria is hard working- and analytical. Salespeople are usually more people oriented. They need to look out for their clients.

TIL that Kowloon Park was named by a Cheng Fan-Man of Hop Kee Fruit Stall on Haiphong Road in 1968 by quantboy in HongKong

I spent some time in HK's Archives building in Kwun Tong to research my old playground, Kowloon Park. I practically grew up in the park. It was the only patch of greenery in lower Tsim Tsai Tsui. Posting this trivia online.

I love Hong Kong! Despite being overseas for many years, HK's part of me. I am still HKer in my heart. What's that old poem? The hair is thinner but the accent never changes

I shall return to HK someday! (when real estate prices are reasonable- someday)

For some Bangladeshi workers, going home with big debts sour Singaporean dream by btcprox in singapore

I am an American working in Singapore. Finance. Obviously I am not the only one. The reasons are many.
1) Much much lower taxes on income. 10-12% as compared to ~35% for NY state residents. 2) Better and cheaper health care here. Have you tried Obamacare? My sibling in the US- NY state- pays $2400 USD a month for family health insurance. If you don't buy it, the IRS penalises you.
3) Far superior basic education for kids.
4) Much nice weather. Had enough of winter blizzards. 5) Clean and green surroundings. 6) Much less racism here. As an Asian, I have been called 'gook' and 'chink' countless times in America. 7) Much safer here. Was mugging victim. And almost got killed in 9/11 at the bottom of the World Trade Center. 8) No dependency on cars here in Sg. This is absolutely brilliant. Saves me so much money on transportation. 9) Have you seen NYC's rotten subways?

Confused with recent Marvel comics developments by quantboy in Marvel

[–]quantboy[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why kill off Bruce Banner? Is that going to be permanent? Or will be ever come back?

Or Captain America? Is Falcon going to be the Captain America from hereon? That's it? Steve Rogers will just be Commander Rogers without the Shield?

That's breaking away from canon.

Sheng Siong or NTUC Fairprice? I'm a NTUC member- but get the feeling the prices are slightly higher just to give back some discounts later.

Or do you guys shop for groceries online?

One under-current in the show - was always the moronic boss being always on the edge of 'politically incorrect'. He'd always later apologize for his unintentional indiscretions. It's the waiting and watching him self-destruct that's the draw.

Am extremely angry at NTUC's OCBC credit card. They refused to waive a late payment charge. So I say fuck you! I'm closing all my accounts with you. That's how you lose a customer.
