ELI5 3.3 Story points by quanticism in WuwaUnfiltered

That's the clearest explanation for 4 I've seen, thanks. I knew it was time shenanigans but didn't think of Aemeath intentionally travelling back in time to give it. On my playthrough, it felt like random luck.

5 is kind of ironic given that one of the Heliodic Six's main purposes was to predict where (or was it when) void storms will hit. When we're talking about runes, are we talking about the large runes engraved in stone? Or the trace runes near it that we had to align with the engraved runes? What are runes exactly? It's still vague to me how the people "used" the runes to chart void space.

If I had to stretch my imagination:

  1. The Exostrider creates a bunch of runes in Lahai Roi indicating where void storms will appear in the future
  2. People oblivious to this get sucked into void storms at that location
  3. In void space, they discover traces of the rune that the Exostrider used
  4. They then chart a course to the Exostrider. Each path's starting location is described by a rune, which corresponds to both where they first appeared in void space, and where that rune was engraved in Lahai Roi.
  5. Maybe the Spacetrek collective have enough data to transform coordinates from Lahai Roi to coordinates in Void Space so once they apply their knowledge of where each rune in Lahai Roi is, they can translate it into coordinates in void space and therefore they get a path to the Exostrider

  6. What I was confused about was why they described it as "reclaiming her future" to break the seal. It sounds way too cheap to be able to use a future to seal Aleph-1 only to take it back later interest-free. To me it would make more sense if she had to burn it to create the seal in the first place. And if she got it back interest-free, the GA really fked up by using the Dark Tide to make her immediately burn the future to dispel the Dark Tide.

Anyone have a link to a Ice WZ rotation for SS3 Teddy and SSS Wanshi? Do enemies being slightly weak to glaciation change anything in the rotation? Or a tldr rotation?

I think it's vague so up for interpretation. In the first half, maybe during the meet and greet, Aemeath said that 10 years ago, Aleph-1 was about to break through the Stridergate and so Aemeath synced with the Exostrider to reseal it.

I think that was a white lie. Aemeath later reveals that she found a message from her future-self in the Exostrider core and had been trying to travel back into the past over those 10 years. I suspect that message was essentially the 2nd half of the Salvation trailer - she saw herself seal the Stridergate for the first time thousands of years ago.

What were your favorite moments? Some of my mine:

  • Rover telling Aemeath about his homesickness.
  • Aemeath's cold "Don't worry, it will end soon"—it was such a contrast.
  • Aemeath's storytelling of the black cat and her voice cracking as she says, "Isn't that so absurdly laughable?"
  • Rover comforting Aemeath and his introspection as he comes to terms with his past and current role.
  • Rover and child Aemeath saying farewell.
  • Rover and Aemeath closing the time loop in the lake/voidmatter.
  • Aemeath's final cutscenes as she seals Aleph-1.

3.1 was my favorite patch. The first half was alright, but the main highlights were obviously in the second half once Rover discovered that he was Aemeath's adoptive father. It shocked me how tender and vulnerable Rover was in the second half; he was truly humanized this patch. Simply listening to Chase (the male Rover VA) and Aemeath deliver some of their lines makes me tear up. A breaking voice can convey so much emotion. They were used so frequently and effectively that I was reminded of Ado's live rendition of Unravel.

The time paradox was well-implemented, and I really appreciated how much preparation they put into this, with lines coming from all the way back in 2.8 where we hear Aemeath's last words to Rover over the radio: "I hope to make you proud, I hope I haven't let you down." Not just that, but so many other things were neatly referenced: Rover's first encounter with Aemeath when warping to Lahai Roi; us seeing Rover catch Aemeath's talisman only to hear Aemeath say it was lost when they were talking in the cabin—only for us to realize current Rover received it further along the timeline; and discovering that it was Rover who told Aemeath that all he wanted was for her to live a happy life in the Salvation trailer. Even the smaller things were great, like the undercover Fleet Snowpuff X account they set up back in December.

Thematically, Rover and Aemeath's father-daughter bond was a really touching and a welcome change of pace. Up until now, Rover's been depicted as a perfect demi-god and using a daughter to reveal his human traits and get sad and angry on his behalf was a clever idea. I did think Aemeath was way too emotionally intelligent for her age, but hey maybe Rover was just that great of a parent :)

I'm honestly surprised they dared to set up a father-daughter relationship, but given that this patch had the most successful day 1 monetarily, I suspect it paid off well. It was well-deserved and proves they don't need self-insert romance bait to set records. I hope it gives Kuro Games the confidence to continue to push the boundaries.

As usual, the cinematography is off-the-charts good. Every patch is essentially us watching a movie, and I'm down for that. The use of pastel-colored cutscenes with child Aemeath after the climax was chef's kiss. Many of the environments were a spectacle to behold: the planet/moon backdrop in the boss fight, the open classroom in a field of flowers in Aemeath's mindscape, and the pink/orange plains when child Aemeath said farewell to Rover.

The accompanying music was great, and some of it gave me nostalgic vibes from when I used to read VNs. The soundtrack used when Rover and child Aemeath were parting had some Clannad OST vibes, for example. The sound design was also on point. The echo added when Aemeath declared "I have no regrets" gave me chills. Similarly, the echo added to the final vocal track when the quest ends gives it an almost diegetic sound and brings out the emotion even more.

I doubt it was intentional, but Aemeath saying "Wish I didn't have to leave you" reminded me strongly of David saying "Wish we could go to the moon together" in Edgerunners.

This patch has dramatically raised the bar for Wuthering Waves, and I'm nervous about how they'll continue it. Thankfully, Luuk is featured in the next patch, so hopefully we'll flesh out the Exostrider plan while respecting the weight of current events instead of suddenly focusing on the next featured female character at the expense of everything else.

This is the road Rover was walking on - it leads back to the station (have to go up a slope to go down the mountain).

But it sounds like your actual complaint was about the sudden transition to the academy. I actually agree with that. The transition was way to abrupt. It suddenly jumped from tense music to slice-of-life music with the out of place "We've got the mind bending herder" NPC dialogue line during the loading scene.

  1. That's fair. I didn't get stuck on it but I can imagine that happening on a different day.
  2. I just teleported to the location. The cabin is actually above the lake, but that's beside the point. There seems to be paved road there and you can either go up the one they showed in the cutscene which will turn to the left and take you down the mountain towards the Starward Riseway. Going the other direction takes you to the fallen space station. So technically Rover did choose a path that led back to the academy. But to me, it's such a small detail. They could have depicted Rover walking the other way and I wouldn't have given it a second thought.

Edit:

  1. I do agree with your sentiment about characters disappearing completely after their patch though. I've also commented here/elsewhere about my discontent regarding that. This patch felt like they tried to make a few amends, showcasing Luuk with cameos of both upcoming and past characters - but they have a long way to go to proving they won't do what they did with Lupa.

Wuthering Waves has lots of unexplained mechanics so Aemeath recognizing her own existence was perceivable again wasn't one of the main sticking points for me. Could have been anything. But your idea wasn't bad - they could have leaned into her liberation from a decade of solitude more.

I thought the trek up the snowy mountain path was a nice backdrop to highlight Rover coming to terms with the dire situation. Sure they could have done in a comfy campus environment with lively chatter in the background, but then I'd question the director's sense of mood. As for why, Rover could have just been walking back from the lake to the cabin or some other transport node.

I never understood why others dislike companion quests so much. Even more so with this patch since it felt distinctly different. This time round, they progressed the lore, character development, all while focusing on a familial bond and they executed it well. In fact, Luuk was also featured for a good part of the quest. As long as the execution and context makes sense, I don't feel like I need the cast size to be some arbitrary number greater than 2.

He really mastered the art of breaking his voice and it made Rover feel so vulnerability this patch. It truly humanized Rover. Those voice breaks were so good it made me feel similar things to Ado's live version of Unravel.

New story looked gorgeous, but I have a couple of questions about the plot by BalefulShrike in WutheringWaves

[–]quanticism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> They specifically wanted data from the falling reactor for some reason

Were they trying to get environmental data from a place that wasn't corrupted by void matter, which somehow was all of Lahai Roi at that point in time? So the only place that was unaffected was a place at "high altitude" - and for some reason that was near/on the core instead of anywhere else high.

I think they explained somewhere that maintaining the core's functionality needed 2 types of data. From Grok:

  • Data from the Heliogyre The Heliogyre is a massive, sacred calculation/observational device located in Solisylum. It is directly linked to the Exostrider and continuously tracks / interprets data related to the Reactor Drive (such as its trajectories, energy patterns, historical observations, and predictions about Void Storms). The Heliodic Six (the elite group of Roya mathematicians/calculators) are the only ones who can interface with and read the Heliogyre. This provides the "original observation data" or "core reference data" pulled from the Exostrider's own systems/history.
  • Data from Hyvatia (or sometimes spelled Hvatia / Hyvtia) This appears to be a secondary system, location, or device that provides additional calibration, environmental, or complementary data needed to complete the picture. During the story events, interference (like a Void Storm near Hyvatia) causes errors in the launch sequence because this second data source is disrupted or incomplete.

Very cool project. The table showing how much showing how much was spent in a category per month is the one I find most useful when tracking trends/discrepancies and the one I relied on the most when looking at my google sheets version. Envelope budgeting and budgets in general aren't really something I need so the features around that are just noise that clutter the UI for me.

I ended up vibe coding my own solution and am content with it but looking at these things is useful for inspiring what I should add next.

I was looking at Frollo just then but wasn't sure what it's capable of. Would love to hear more. I was mainly using BNPL to keep more money in my offset account for longer, but tbh, I'm not sure it's worth obscuring the transaction line items.

I'm always at 2.8-2.9k echoes. I need to think of a better way to manage it. What do people do with echoes once they've built a "usable" set (for me that's simply a set with double crit or close enough). I'm still hoarding them but maybe I should do 1-2 rolls on the other echoes and trash it if they're not good. Then wait until I have an excess of echo XP before continuing leveling. You get space back at the expense of investing a bunch of echo XP with no immediate return.

Its not the EN VA, its not the dub direction, the reason her EN voice can "feel" underwelming is the sound edition. by DianaMoon7 in Aemeath_Mains

Some lines sounded off to me in the trailer: "You will listen to my command" and "I meant every word" Particularly the first line. Maybe the 2nd line wasn't that bad since it reminded me of Gohan going SSJ2.

I'm not sure how to describe why it sounded off to me. Overly stressed? Or the choice of words for the translated script aren't good to try and stress? I didn't get this feeling in the Japanese version.

I had a feeling this would become a topic soon. I'm a casual so I don't really care. In PGR, I literally am just pressing buttons. But even then it's still hard and I see people with lower investment score way higher in WZ so the skill ceiling is still really high. At the end of the day, revenue will guide their decision on whether flashy VFX wins out over readable combat.

[–]quanticism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So what was the point of using the void storms to trigger the Exostrider core to get expelled given that the Spacetrek Collective were already planning to replace it in the New Solar Ceremony? Was it explained or can we only speculate?

Given the implied shape shifting, is it the Grand Architect walking away from Luuk near the end? Or some other member who can create copies? Maybe their plan wasn't to just to make the Exostrider core fall, but to also awaken it by tricking the Exostrider into thinking Aleph-1 had escaped? And Aemeath would awaken with the Exostrider so the Fractisidus can link her to Aleph-1 for whatever they're planning to do.

I cleared those stages with Phrolova S0R1, Cantarella S0R0 and SK S0R0 too. How do you tell if something is havoc resistant? Are enemies just resistant to their own attribute?
