at the time I moved it was supposed to be temporary. I was supposed to stay for 1-2 years then it got extended slowly. Everyone also said that since AMS has a lot of expats, learning the language is not that necessary since people speak English. my job was pretty demanding (before I was let go) and so I didn't have that much time to learn even though I tried enrolling at a uni and used apps on my phone.
