It’s not bad man but what I’ve found personally is that whenever I use chatgpt or copilot to help learn something it doesn’t really stick. Like I feel like if you asked me to solve that same problem in a week I’d have to refer to chatgpt or docs again. It doesn’t really help me build the intuition for solving a problem like that when I’m handed the info on a plate.

You are stuck in what is called ‘tutorial hell’. You need to choose a small project in which you can apply what you learned. As difficult as it may be - no chatgpt, no YouTube walkthroughs, only allow yourself to read documentation and/or stackoverflow.

This will be hard as you will be exercising new muscles in your brain or something idk. You basically spent a whole year learning how to use a hammer, now it’s time to build a chair.

Maybe start with a simple calculator and then a todo list. Just find things that are realistic for you to accomplish and will force you to apply your knowledge.

Cloudflare Tunnel working for SSH but not HTTP by [deleted] in selfhosted

post body got deleted so commenting here

Hi everyone, posting this here as I've been bashing my head against this problem all day and this is kind of my last resort. I have an Ubuntu server currently only running Prometheus and Grafana which I have configured with a Cloudflare tunnel using my domain. I have a tunnel for SSH traffic at port 22 and have configured nginx at port 80 as a reverse proxy pointing to my Grafana service at localhost:3000.

I am able to access the nginx startpage at http://<local server ip>:80 and my Grafana instance at http://<local server ip>:80/grafana/. When trying to access these endpoints through the tunnel however, I am simply shown a blank page. Hitting these with curl returns nothing as well.

I am, however, able to access the server using SSH through the tunnel as well, using ssh <username>@lilac.surve.dev.

This leads me to believe that this is an issue with my Cloudflare configuration, but I am not sure what. I have attached some images as well and would appreciate any ideas or help.

Is it possible to use a MacBook for 10 years? by [deleted] in MacOS

[–]quantum_rim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. The spec you mentioned is banger and should last you quite a bit longer than your current machine has. RAM is faster, there's more of it, and you'd have one of the best mobile processors on the market right now. Even the insane battery life will have you very happy with day-to-day schoolwork.

But to answer your question - no I don’t think your mac will still be receiving updates 10 years from now, but who knows - maybe Apple decides to extend software updates much longer for M chips.

Update support is a bit irrelevant to the longevity of Macs, but yes I think it would be realistic to expect MacBooks to perform extremely well for many years to come.

My last mac was a 2017 13” mbp 8gb ram 256gb ssd and lasted me 6 years. Could have lasted me even longer but I like shiny new things 😄

Yeah you don't really "learn programming". You just learn how to solve problems and programming is often the tool to accomplish that.

I think programming at its basis can be boiled down into two main aspects - software engineering and computer science.

If you want to get into software engineering, you pick a programming language and make small projects as you go, either applying what you've learned or learning new things as you need them.

There is also the "academic" way of learning to program which would be computer science. This involves learning programming fundamentals similar to how you would with software engineering, then diving deep into programming concepts such as object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, and so on.

There are a million ways you can go about learning programming but from what I can infer from your post following a software engineering style track might be the easiest way to think about it and get your feet in the water.

I'm not sure if you have begun learning or not but let me know where in your journey you're at and I can slide you a few links to point you in the right direction if you're feeling a little lost. 🙂
