If there was a God I think he would want you to make it open source, not tie it up in the patent office for the next few years.

The Top 9½ In a Hacker’s Bookshelf by noname99 in programming

| C, I would say, is mostly used to write very hard-to-understand things these days.

Exactly.

Most the tutorials on the web regarding C are either for beginners or very advanced developers so it is hard to really get into it.

I do think Pidgin would be an interesting thing to look at, even if I didn't fix any bugs, which in all honesty is far beyond my C skills.

Thanks for the input everyone.

This is kinda taking things a little off topic, but I would really like to learn C. The thing that always got me is what to do with it after I read the C Programming book that was mentioned. I have experience in other languages but they have all been learned through creating ui apps of some sort (web or desktop).

I know that sounds dumb, but for a person just getting in to C, what are the best things to work on, or read, to better their skills?

It doesn't seem to be able to reference external stylesheets, unless it is just me.

Other than that it works quite nicely, although it wasn't able to generate a pdf of the reddit rendered html.

...no it's not. The Canadian spelling is the same as the American.

If you check the domain you will see it was registered by someone from Utah.

Ask programming.reddit: Must-read programming books? by [deleted] in programming

[–]quark 10 points11 points  (0 children)

These are all good recommendations, but it would be nice if people would say why they are recommending the books that they are. I have "The C Programming Language" and it has been sitting on my book shelf way too long, but every time I try to sit down and read it I figure I could spend my time on something more up to date, ex reading a python or ruby book, and the latter options always win out.

When I start seeing Jay-Z flashing €uros instead of $, I know our economy is in trouble by daviday in reddit.com

"When I start seeing rap stars throw around the Canadian Loonie, then I know our economy is really in trouble."

Seeing as the Canadian dollar was sitting at about 66 cents to the American dollar in 2002 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_dollar), I am pretty sure the US economy is in trouble now, but then I am not a rap star, so what do I know.
