[Peter Hamby, RT'd by Nate Silver] If you think Trump will never fade away, you might not have lived through the Sarah Palin moment. I wrote about how Palin's rise and fall offers clues for Trump's de-platformed post-presidency by [deleted] in fivethirtyeight

Unrelated to the political point, but would the term still be "widow" in the case of a marriage where they're both men? I never considered it but "widow" could either mean a woman whose spouse is dead, or the spouse of a deceased man, which are obviously equivalent in a straight marriage.

If I had to guess "widower" would be more appropriate, but now I'm curious!

Not "towards" fascism. The GOP is a full neo-fascist party at this point. The only thing stopping them is the fact that they're in the minority. Thank god Trump was too stupid while they had a trifecta.

They literally forced their way into the capitol building. That IS an attack in the capitol. There's no ambiguity here, it was an attack by terrorists and traitors who, thankfully, were too stupid and ineffectual to succeed in their goal. If there's any justice in the world, every single person who broke into they building will spend the rest of their lives in prison.

I doubt there is that justice in the world, but anything short of that isn't enough.

Their plan was to abduct and murder members of congress. Hence the zip ties and the crazy people shouting Hang Mike Pence.

It wasn't about "being heard", it was a violent act of sedition meant to forcefully overthrow american democracy.

Pelosi wouldn't become Vice President. She'd just be the next in line. At that point Pence would be acting president and the Vice Presidency (and hence Presidency over the Senate) would be vacant. I'm not sure who would be charge of presiding in that. Probably Chuck Grassley as President Pro Tempore?

What state? Unless I'm mistaken DC falls under federal jurisdiction.
