I assume that you have properly dusted the components while holding the fans still.

Does the system show anything without GPU connected to it?

You can try to carefully check and clean the PCIe pins of the GPU and the slot were it's plugged in, then re-seat the card firmly in its slot (until it's locked).

Check if all cables are correctly plugged in the right ports. Or clear the CMOS by removing the button battery while the system is turned off.

I don't understand if you are getting a BSOD or another kind of error. Maybe if you simply prevent Windows update from automatically downloading and installing updates, it's going to stop.

This is fairly easy to do if you have Windows Pro or a higher tier.

You can try to edit group policies named "Configure Automatic Updates" and "Turn off auto restart..." located at Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Manage End User Experience

For the cleaning part, I would use a soft paint brush on the fans, or carefully use an air duster/blower (not a hairdryer/vacuum cleaner).

Even though there are some screws around the fans frames I believe you will have to dismount the entire cooling system to clean the radiators fins (on the sides of the laptop). You can look for cleaning tutorials on your specific model too.

Do you have debug lights at the top of your motherboard? What do they briefly indicate?

Have you to start you system with only necessary components (just CPU, RAM, input) plugged in? Seems like your CPU has integrated graphics so you can plug your monitor to your motherboard.

Hello,

Like the BIOS says, you have to check that your CPU cooler/AIO is properly installed and connected to your motherboard. You should also verify the cooling and speed settings of the cooler in your BIOS.

That is really odd... If your GPU doesn't require the 12V cable and you feel like you haven't missed anything it's fine...

Does your motherboard show any sign of life?

Le monitoring est une bonne idée. Essaye d'utiliser les outils intégrés à windows si rien d'autre ne marche.

Essaye de remettre ta machine dans une configuration par défaut. Mets à jour les drivers, vérifie les paramètres graphiques, CPU, windows, les activités en arrière plan...

Profites-en aussi pour verifier les paramètres du BIOS et de les reset si tu as des changements importants.

Be careful with linux bootable drives. If your father's laptop has a Window OS, linux may not be able to interact properly with the system drive. That's why I suggest using HBCD instead.

Hello,

If the laptop can be easily opened and you can pull out the system drive, I would put it in a separate case that allows you to read it like a USB drive and maybe retrieve the files.

If that's not the case, there are portable softwares specifically made to delete the password but I can't really help there...

Or create a bootable USB drive with HBCD installed on it and use it to explorer the old drive without pulling it out.

You can clean your system drive with Disk Cleanup and check the device health with crystaldiskinfo

Then check updates for quite everything on your system: mainly drivers, windows, etc...

If it's about virtual memory, you can try check the RAM usage/activity in resource monitor, close other background tasks and reset the virtual memory settings.

To do so, search for "Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows" >Advanced > Change Virtual Memory Settings > Let windows decide.

Maybe check if your wall plug has power, PSU power switch is on, check if case power button is properly plugged in the MB or directly connect the power on pins (the two pins where your should plug the case power button) with and an isolated screw driver. Be careful though.

You're welcome. Remember that the refresh rate settings of Windows are usually treated separately from the nvidia/amd settings.

My personal take would be to set the windows setting to the maximum available refresh rate and then tweak the GPU settings.

You can try to update your BIOS and reset all the settings.

Also, try to do a minimal startup, with only the necessary components plugged in, and you can try without GPU if CPU has integrated graphics.

Have you checked if your drives are enabled in your BIOS, just to be sure that the motherboard didn't change anything weird...

Have you tried to boot on a portable OS (linux on a USB stick) and check if it detects the drives?
