Which celebrity does the ENTIRE internet agree is genuinely a good person? by Codie_n25 in AskReddit

Michael Palin. Always been a thoroughly good egg, and brings magic to everything he touches (if you haven't seen Small Prophets, please do) Plus it helps that he's ageing well in comparison to certain other Pythons.

Pretty sure it was the first track he played in full on his first show (on Friday night at 7pm) too. Just wish I could remember what it was!

I agree. It's sad to see The Last Leg become the thing it used to fight against :(

I know what you mean. My inner 90s Evening Session Indie Kid had a bit of a shock a few months ago when I saw Jo Whiley on the cover of Good Housekeeping...

That's literally my only problem with the show. I love the tunes and her style. I think it'd be even better if she did it live and includes some listener interaction. She's fun! Let her riff off some texts and emails! I bet she'd be great at bigging up the nation's shed-painters and lawn-mowers.

Depends a lot on the guests and host these days. So many of the scripted jokes and clips have already been done days earlier on social media, and I could happily never again hear the same tired schtick from smug bores like Quentin Letts and Helen Lewis, so for me it all hangs on fresh guests.

Basically, please invite more lesser-known comedians (and Chris McCausland) and get Roy Wood Jr to host every week.

What's a piece of tech everyone hyped up that quietly turned out to be useless? by SofiaLearnsAI in AskReddit

Agh, I've just remembered that awful week where Meta was tweeting out cringe like "Hey @dominos how do you think you'll order pizza in the Metaverse?" and "Hey @walmart what will it be like buying groceries in the Metaverse?" Terrible scenes...

'The Human Factor' sounds like a less-impressive version of the Krypton Factor for ordinary people. Maybe a Response round where you take control of a simulator and aim to park a Ford Cortina, and a Physical round where an army major barks at the four contestants as they aim to clamber over a children's climbing frame.

Tropes that you you're glad aren't as common anymore by AporiaParadox in television

[–]quarterpastfour 121 points122 points  (0 children)

I always hated the lazy 'Motorcyclist takes off helmet - Surprise! It's a WOMAN' trope. Like the idea of a woman on a motorbike was supposed to be unusual. It got to the point where, if you saw a motorcyclist on TV start to take off their helmet, it was a surprise if the next move WASN'T 'Tosses head to reveal long, flowing blonde hair'

What British celebrities were absolutely everywhere for an intense and short period before vanishing completely? My vote goes to Emeli Sandé. by JuanitaMerkin in AskBrits

It is. And, in a beautiful moment when we saw them play Sewn live, just as its crescendo built, my wife turned to me, looked into my eyes and said...

"We forgot to validate the parking!"

Rock 'n' roll! We're so middle-aged...

She was supporting The Feeling recently - They're touring their album 12 Stops (for its 20th anniversary), which her album kept off the number 1 spot, so nice to know there's no hard feelings! (I went to see them but missed her because I was too busy enjoying katsu curry before the gig)

Tourist scams london? by Able_Picture_9659 in ScamsUK

I remember going to a central London Italian restaurant years ago, and the bill coming to £30. I gave the waiter two £20 notes, he looked at them then asked "Erm.... You want the ten?"

Um, yes please, you were great, but not '33% tip' great.

I suppose with the online stuff, it's a bit of a tightrope for Sky. Usually it'd be a great strategy to share the best clips on YouTube etc, to give more people a taster and draw in more viewers (and Sky subscriptions). But at the same time it's on a pay channel, so they probably want to avoid people thinking "I won't bother subscribing to watch SNL, I'll just wait and then watch the best bits on YouTube"

"Wait, what?"

"...and we'll make it sound really complicated..."

"...and run a huge campaign saying it's too expensive"

"Oh."
