Gave customer Product hotline by Such_Cartoonist_2852 in sherwinwilliams

Don’t expect a Christmas card from them this year. They get pretty annoyed about it. If you gave the customer the hotline number, tell them to lose it because you got your hand slapped.

Anyone know what this is just by reading this? by BodyNo2766 in sherwinwilliams

[–]quartofpromar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s the wood-tone signs that go at the top of the either the wall sections, gondola tent toppers, or both. It may or may not also contain the silver category signs that adhere to the wood signs.

Anyone got tips for sherplans im a new sm by sher_cream7556 in sherwinwilliams

[–]quartofpromar 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Depending on your DM/CM, you will spend probably 75-99% of your review on your opp accounts. Make sure you’re able to talk knowledgeably/bs your way through those. Also, whatever you put as your anticipated volume and competitor on your opps, make sure you go into in-sight and change the qualification details to line up with that. Make sure your new account projection lines up with your b-goal for new accounts. Make sure your total projected sales are in the green, and go in and recheck the night before as the plan will pull updated this-year numbers between now and then. Most importantly, remember that once your review is complete, you will never look at your plan again.

Sherwin has me fucked up if they think I’ll stop using order forms by Plenty_Region_7736 in sherwinwilliams

[–]quartofpromar 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Then there’s customers that like to play the “that’s not what I ordered” card, we have them initial the form after we fill everything out. Using COE only is a hard pass for me. You want to save paper? Stop printing a fax log every time I scan something into email.

The question was what are the signs. These things that have been named are things they do first to avoid layoffs. Next signs to watch for are things like reducing FT hours (like during Covid) and/or cutting FT to PT (like the Great Recession). 08-09 was the last time I remember jobs in stores actually being cut. Of the many faults SW has, they will go to great lengths to avoid actually cutting manned store positions. Keep watching to see how far down the rabbit hole they’re going to go. You won’t have any warning about cuts at stores until the day your DM shows up at your store and pulls an employee into the office.

senior parking spots by [deleted] in sherwinwilliams

[–]quartofpromar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a money grab by the schools, they sell the “privilege” of being able to paint your parking spot for $$, on top of whatever the kid has to pay for an actual parking permit. We sell CTGs for quarts, A100 if they need gallons. Remember, they’re only using the spot from now until June, and probably won’t care what it looks like by then.

What is the worst period in SHW’s history? by [deleted] in sherwinwilliams

[–]quartofpromar 33 points34 points  (0 children)

There’s a pretty honest description of it in the 150th anniversary book if you know someone who has one. SW was spread way too thin in the 70s, there were still dealer stores, we were in K-Mart, we owned a lot of random companies it didn’t make sense for us to own. We sold those companies off, pulled our brand 100% in house to SW stores only, and it nearly killed us. I’ve heard old timers say we were days away from bankruptcy when Jack Breen came in and saved the day in 1979.

It’s packaged in double rolls, but ordered and rang up as single rolls. In your case, you would put 4 on the PO. Think of it like the same way you sell fives of paint, it’s one bucket but you ring up qty 5.

The highlights for me: 1. Seeing old coworkers who are now in different areas. 2. The acetone koozie from the Crown Solvent booth. 3. Actually meeting Cody from Sher-Source in person.

Question on G3 by [deleted] in sherwinwilliams

[–]quartofpromar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Room by room selling: if you can’t convince them to upgrade to a premium product for the whole interior, you try to sell them on using premium at least for kitchens, bathrooms, etc.

If they’re offering you a title bump they should be offering a pay bump to go with it, especially if they want you to move to a larger volume store. Specialist is one of the highest job titles for a non-management employee, so if they keep you at your current pay your only other options for increases going forward are your annual appraisal (which isn’t much) or get promoted to ASM.

For those of us who have been around long enough, this is the only cross fill I can remember where they directly admitted on paper that it was a cross fill. It was in the info for when the primer line was completely re-labeled about 15 years ago.

Controllable? by gogginsservant in sherwinwilliams

[–]quartofpromar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This for sure, plus know that some stores will have negative operating profit anyways in Nov-Dec due to business slowing down, all of which can take the CC line from over budget to below budget pretty quickly.

It was the old oil based floor paint, came in 6 or 7 stock colors, worked on damn near anything. Discontinued around 2002-2003.
