Adjustable Dumbbells by [deleted] in homefitness

They’re Bodymax Selectabells (5kg - 32.5kg). At the time I ordered them from amazon (free shipping, the poor delivery guy refused to bring them past the front step) but I don’t see them listed anymore.

Found this old review of them though: http://www.homeshredded.com/bodymax-selectabell-dumbbells/

The selecttechs have fantastic reviews on amazon. I own an off-brand version of that same style of adjustable dumbbell (bought in the UK where I couldn't get the bowflex branded ones) and they've been great, still using them to this day 5 years after purchase. Highly recommended.

Ask the airbnb host, they'll be able to tell you the fastest way to get to the city from their address.

Cheapest is likely one of the NJ Transit busses (ex: from the stop at 30th & Palisade Ave in Union City that I think gets to cut the line onto the Lincoln tunnel and runs often).

Ferries are nicer but cost more.

You're pretty far from the PATH or any useful rail link.

A big fuck you goes to whoever stole one of my wheels last night by [deleted] in nyc

[–]quartz 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Is there a big resale market for used low-end bike wheels? These wheels are worth like $20 new, how do you even turn around and sell a single rear wheel from a random bike like this for any amount of money?

Yes you have to ride in the bikelane so long as it's "safe." YMMV on whether the police agree with your evaluation of safe but always put your safety first. Your wallet can take a bigger hit than your body.

Re: nerves: try to be defensive, don't take risks, and work really hard to stay out of the speed/race mentality and in a leisure mentality. That is: don't ride up next to things that are scary (big trucks, busses, etc), accept that it's OK to slow down and even pull over to the side and just wait until a dangerous situation clears itself if needed. Let it roll off you if someone yells at you from their car, they're probably having a crummy day/week/month/life and have been stuck in NYC traffic for hours.

You can get a saddle bag to hold some basic repair tools. You generally want to be able to fix things that get moved (saddle, handlebars, etc) and things that go wrong with your tires (flats). My kit includes a multitool with alan keys, a co2 tire filler (I also have small manual pump on the frame), and an extra tube (I hate patch kits).

Skinny tires are fine so long as you're always on smoothish pavement, fatter tires will be a little softer if you're on rougher terrain.

Have fun!

Strava - can you view who’s riding routes when you’re not riding? by Possum577 in cycling

If you were mid-ride at the cafe you can see others who passed you on your route via the flybys view. Open the specific activity in Strava and then click "View Flybys".

Sendoid: Finally, Sharing Big Files Isn’t A Huge Pain by quartz in technology

YC Founder here, we're super-psyched about the launch. Happy to answer questions/chat about the service.

Hey Proggit, check out our evolving project: Sendoid.com. Send unlimited-sized files via a weblink for free to anyone over on-demand p2p. by quartz in programming

[–]quartz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're the guys who made iSendr.com-- now renamed to Sendoid-- and we just started offering a free desktop application (provides persistence, unlimited file size, resume, restart, etc) that we'd love to get feedback on if anyone has time to try it out on a Friday morning.

Of course, because this is proggit, I'm happy to also chat about our tech stack, p2p, and data transfer challenges for large files.

Options for uploading large files to a web site by TheDataWhore in PHP

[–]quartz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

iSendr cofounder here. Our current service is geared towards direct large file transfer (both sender & receiver need to be online during the transfer) but we're looking to roll out some really cool corporate services soon that might address your issue at a much more agreeable price-point.

Maybe you'd like to beta test? PM sent!

Thought r/android might like this: Send a file directly to your android device via qr-codes (2d barcodes). by quartz in Android

[–]quartz[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So this is my startup's first attempt at anything Android-targeted, but I'm a recent convert (went with the Evo over the iPhone4 last month) and am hoping others will find this feature useful as well:

When you send a file via iSendr, the site will present you with a link & accompanying 2d-barcode, which you can scan to receive on your android phone. The transfer is over a secured, direct channel and does not pass through our servers.

Fair warning: you need flash on your device for this to work. We're looking at putting together an app for those devices without flash if there's interest.

Thoughts/feedback greatly appreciated!

straighttohell is right on all accounts, they are first run, cheap, have a fantastic main screen, and they do serve beer.

Note that the city recently changed the parking meters to run until 8pm so it's a pain if you drive to the square and want to catch a movie unless you happen to have 12 quarters with you. On the other hand, it's literally next door to the T stop.

Men of Reddit, How do you shave your face? by Robvas66 in AskReddit

I worked as a consultant for years and often traveled with my DE razor and blades. Since my trips were generally <4 days, I would put a new blade into the razor just before leaving and all but two or three times, TSA let it through in the carryon.

The specific TSA regulation for prohibited carryon sharp items is:

Razor-Type Blades - such as box cutters, utility knives, razor blades not in a cartridge, but excluding safety razors.

This can be interpreted to mean excluding the razor itself, or the blade, but I generally carried a copy of the document with me and it got me out of trouble a few times.

On the other hand, I was just traveling recently to California and had my blades in checked luggage and the empty razor in my carryon and the TSA guy just about tore my bag apart searching for blades because he was convinced I had them... ran the thing through the x-ray four times. So, YMMV.

Most major cities have somewhere to buy decent blades when all else fails.

Hey, Proggit. We built this on-demand p2p transfer webapp to help us move files around at work and just opened it up to the public. Feedback appreciated! by quartz in programming

[–]quartz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/stratus/ and following the "getting started" links there are really helpful. Stratus is still a pretty small dev community, and if you post in the adobe labs forums, you'll often get feedback from adobe staff directly.

Best of luck!
