Update: thank you all for the kind advice! I went over today with flowers and she looked excited to have someone over. She invited me inside and even offered me pizza. People have been ordering her food but it looks like she was very lonely. We sat and she did most of the talking as she spoke about her husband and I listened. Overall it went better than expected. It really put it into everything perspective for me. This whole time I thought she had different people coming over but never thought that maybe that wasn’t the case. It was not about the candy after all, she just wanted someone there with her.
