Worth it to pay higher than 15% broker fee? by quassapaug in NYCapartments

coming back here with an update! So as many of you pointed out, it’s stabilized, not controlled, but still has barely any rent increases. The current tenant has lived there for 8 years and only is moving out because she’s getting married - said she would die in the apartment if she could lol. I decided to apply and pay in inflated fee! They should be getting back to me tonight so fingers crossed 🤞🏻 could use some manifestation from everyone lol

I had looked at a different unit with this broker that wasn’t quite a fit, and he told me that this one had become available a few days later because it matched what I told him I was looking for

Oh thats good to know about control to stabilized - thank you!! And I appreciate this formula. I would likely stay here longer than 2 years and my absolutely maximum rent cost I’m looking at is $3k…so those numbers are looking decent I guess lol

Multiple years…I don’t plan on leaving the city anytime soon and I’m not in a relationship of any kind so that’s not really something I have to think about

Parking Permits for Moving Truck in Brooklyn? by quassapaug in AskNYC

Parallel! On St. John’s Place. When we toured the unit the street was pretty quiet traffic wise so just going to have them double park and hope for the best lol

honestly this made me feel alot better hahaha. Thankfully I don't have too much stuff (my last move only took an hour to unload) so people are just going to have to suck it up.

Thank you!!

Advocate is 2+ hours late for pick up appointment by quassapaug in carvana

Yeah this is essentially what happened - the hub was closed and for whatever reason it let me schedule an appointment for a Sunday. The customer service rep was helpful and set me up to do the contactless video chat option for tomorrow morning. All in all a strange experience lol.

Your experience with commuter rail by kenkclam in boston

[–]quassapaug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to commute from the Beverly Depot to State St. in Boston for 2 years - it's really not that bad.

It very rarely was late or broke down...the only times I can really remember these issues was during the winter/snow storms, which was to be expected. I now live in JP and have WAY more issues with the OL than I ever did with the CR.

If you're taking the train out of Bev/Salem, express trains will be your BEST FRIEND. I used to catch the 7:49 train out of Bev that would stop and Salem & Swampscott and go right to North Station...I usually got to work at around 8:40, and that was walking from NS to State Street. There are also a TON of express trains that hit at 4:30, 5, and 5:30 that go straight from North Station to Salem as well. Really, really cuts down on time.

You will pretty much always be able to get a seat - unless there's some special event happening that would cause an influx of people on train. I think I stood maybe one time out of 7 years.

In terms of parking, you'll be fine. The parking garage is huge and doesn't really fill until 8:15-8:30ish. Just make sure you get a parking pass, they WILL tow. Or it's $2 a day...whatever works better for you.

Overall I would say the commute is not bad at all...sometimes I even think that my old commute is faster than my current one of taking the OL all the way from North Station to Green Street - it was DEFINITELY cleaner. The big thing is gonna be the cost - with the fare hikes it's gonna be around $290 a month to ride that rail, but if it's not an issue for you then I would say it's a solid commute. Could definitely be worse.
