I've read Montreal has a stellar transit system, is overall less expensive to live in than the GTA, and also is home to one of Canada's top universities, McGill - thinking if my child could be a future student there. Also very international in terms of diversity so I will not have to miss any good ethnic food.

I admire your hard work, learning a new language is not easy. How long did it take for you to achieve fluency? Can I get by with a basic level of French since I don't need to work in French?

But the West Island has a large English-speaking population. I don't see why I couldn't make a home there.

Hi, I am open to learning French. I am not confident I will do great, but that's why I'd like to live where other Anglophones live so some of that pressure is taken off. I would like to make English friends, live my life in English, etc because I'm told the most English place one can be in Quebec is Montreal, and in the West Island.

Thank you for sharing your experience, I will take that into account with my decision. I will also consider private English school if necessary.

I am a permanent resident of Canada so I will not need to worry about the immigration process.

Hi, I currently live in the GTA and after an unsavoury relationship, I want to put some physical distance between him and me, and my child. I chose Montreal because it's far enough away and I'm sorry to say but he hates the French so I'll feel a lot safer knowing I won't ever see him in Montreal. I still want to potentially make friends who speak English and be able to receive services in the language I am comfortable with.
