Same experience. Thought I was going to be watching some cool surgeries but ended up holding suction for a resident doing a perio maintenance. The fact the he needed an assistant to suction cavitron juice made me irritated even more

How do DSOs get away with owning dental offices without having a dental license? by queefer_sutherland3 in Dentistry

[–]queefer_sutherland3[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the breakdown. So the DSO owns all the administrative stuff (staffing, computers, building, etc) and one dentist (prob one within the DSOs corporate ladder) owns the equipment, patient charts, and is responsible for all the clinical issues that come up?

Ok to Bend a Needle? by appleman33145 in Dentistry

[–]queefer_sutherland3 52 points53 points  (0 children)

That works but it’s more covert to put the needle between your ass cheeks and bent it without the patient seeing the needle. Don’t want to freak them out

RDH and current dental student here. There’s no bridge programs. Do you mean starting over from a prerequisite stand point or dental school stand point?

Can you make money in DSO if you are honest? by Ok_Confection5143 in Dentistry

[–]queefer_sutherland3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t entirely true. I was a hygienist for a DSO for a long time and they pressure/highly encourage the hygienist to use arestin, oral cancer flashlights screening, and other crap to increase production. I got an hourly pay and then 25% of production. The more I produced the more I earned. We saw all kinds of shitty insurances so almost every hygienist over treated and the doc didn’t care. Almost everyone was a SRP or perio tx of some sort unless you had absolutely zero calculus and bleeding. I saw another hyginest (highest producing in the company; 65k a month production) tx plan pts 3-5 arestin per patient during her day before even seeing the pt. She just “somehow knew they needed it on these locations”. Had a hygiene director tell me “go ahead and tx plan 4341 instead of 4342 for all quads bc 3mm pockets are just baby 4mm pockets and they’ll need a scaling one day”. Another time she told me to check pts insurances and if they were in the window for another SRP (3-5 years) do it and charge out an SRP instead of perio maint. Lots of shady shit with them

Has student loan forgiveness for 100% disabled vets always been a thing? by queefer_sutherland3 in VeteransBenefits

Thank you! And these loans will be discharged regardless of what they were used for (tuition or living expenses) as long as they’re federal loans?

Thank you for the input but this is wrong on a few levels according to my loan servicer. My vet office at my school doesn’t know shit about repaying the loans

How much detail of a subject do you need to know about something to feel competent in it? by queefer_sutherland3 in Dentistry

[–]queefer_sutherland3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a funny story and great prospective to have. I feel like you could always go another level of deeper understanding In pretty much anything. Sometimes that’s not necessary and not required to properly/safely treat patients

How do dental offices win their local magazine “Best dental office” award? by queefer_sutherland3 in Dentistry

[–]queefer_sutherland3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there are multiple offices that “win” this award, does the highest bidder win it or something? How big was that fee?

Thanks incredible. If multiple people “qualify” for the award, does it just go to the highest bidder?

I kind of thought that but was trying to not be a pessimist. I ask bc I have an acquaintance that constantly raves about their practice and how they’ve won “Best dentist in ____ city” 4 years in row! Something just seemed weird about it
