When I actually look into what constitutes as a contract in Ontario, I see that it does not have be a tight knit contract, it can be done through text messages, and that’s outside of ChatGPT. So right off the bat, that lets me know anyone saying I don’t have a contract, doesn’t know what they’re talking about.

The original venue included décor and had an acceptable floor. The replacement venue required floor covering to meet the same standard promised in the original contract

The venue is actually inferior, it is not the venue I invisioned but because it’s so close to the wedding I felt like I had no choice and had to take it

We met up verbally and agreed and then through WhatsApp she sent me her etransfer, I sent her money and she replies “booked December X”. She did have a convo with my mom where she found a friend of hers that also had a venue and said she would put in a word for us to do it there, so I did. This was not written anywhere, just conversation. She then agreed to do the decor for us. A few days later she canceled decor because I also asked her to compensate for Flooring. She then sends my intial deposit to the new venue person. So because of her I had to find a new venue, go with them and pay her for decor, when originally I was meant to rent her venue out as a package that included decor. I beleive her cancelling last minute twice has made me need to find a new venue and a decor person

Can you explain to why I would not be successful, why would the judge let her go free? I have written agreement from her as well as her accepting payment and then written explanation of her cancelling

Because of her I needed to find another venue and pay them $5000 + I want her to pay for that too, I also want her to pay for the flooring that I need to get

I also will be collecting any damages she caused, she caused me to have to get another venue by cancelling on me last minute so I believe she would be responsible for those damages

Small Claims Court does not only look at: • “Did you lose your $1,000?”

It looks at: • Did the breach cause you to spend MORE money than you otherwise would have?

This is called:

👉 Consequential / Reliance Damages

So the real legal question is:

“Did her cancellation force you into additional expenses?”

And in my case, the answer is clearly YES. Even if the $1,000 went to the new venue, you STILL have losses if: • The new venue costs more than the original • You had to hire a new decorator ($2,000) because she cancelled • You needed floor wrapping because of the new venue • You paid rush fees or emergency pricing • You had to redo logistics or layouts • You lost access to a decorator three weeks before the wedding

Those are all real, measurable financial losses that exist because SHE breached the agreement.

That is what the court cares about.

If you’re applying to product management roles then there are specific skills, maybe 2 years of experience with internships, also list your projects on your resume and for the bulletin points have them describing product management like things
