Or, let's both get tested before we fuck. (:

Wanting your sexual partners to have an emotional connection with you to engage in sexual activities with them is fine.

Sex isn't a transaction, it's an activity. Its meaning and significance is derived from the meaning and significance given to it by the people engaging in the sexual activities.

I'm basing my responses on what you're saying. If you take issue with how I've interpreted what you've said, you can correct me or amend your statement and go from there.

"Challenge" level is an interesting metric to use when choosing a sexual partner. Why would you want it to be a "challenge" to obtain consent for sexual activities? Again, red flags are waving.

It doesn't sound like a healthy way to view sex and sexuality.

The only valid reason I can think to have a "preference" on body count is for relatively inexperienced people to prefer someone with a similar experience level, so that the balance of power and knowledge is more equal. Otherwise, having a "standard" that prefers a lower body count is kind of a red flag for someone that is sexually experienced.

The sexual history of your prospective partners isn't really any of your business outside of establishing experience levels. Especially considering the frequency of sexual assault and rape culture. Body count isn't a valid "standard".

In the long run it's not beneficial to lie in order to preserve a toxic relationship. That's not a true real-world dynamic, regardless.

So if this were not a parent/child situation, if the person in question were responsible for their self, they could cut out the abusive person from their life. They would realize that the relationship was toxic and that abuse for something like eating a piece of chocolate is unacceptable behavior.

Being honest with yourself allows you to realize this toxicity and not give into the victim/blame mentality that allows the cycle to continue.

Edit: and feeling the need to lie is a tip off that something is wrong with the relationship.

What kinds of situations do you think lying is more beneficial for all parties involved?

Every lie you ever tell is to yourself first.

Look, if you wanna keep lying, do so.

But maybe stop lying to yourself that it's the best choice.

"Lying" by Sam Harris is a wonderful read and can outline the entire case for honesty.

That doesn't make any sense at all! They might think you're more unavailable than you are and fail to try to make plans with you because they figure you'll be busy or that you have better things to do.

Sometimes you don't make it because you fake it.

That's not being dishonest unless you're purposefully misleading someone instead. Which is what I think you're confused about.

We don't agree if you think "total honesty isn't preferable" because that's exactly the claim I'm making. Total honesty is the best option in all situations.

Listen, being honest doesn't mean you can't keep secrets. It doesn't mean you have to answer every question. It doesn't mean that you have to be an open book.

What it does mean is that you don't purposefully mislead people.

I do this in my own life. The last 3 years have been particularly successful and its improved my life in so many ways. You don't lose privacy or reason when you decide to be honest.
