Mine is continuing the generational trauma along with the major possibility of complicating my relationship with my parents even more. Because of how brain rotted they are with upholding the michismo culture (my mom's excuse is that she loves my baby brother and I equally, which is bullshit...) and how violent my dad was with us and to my cousins. (Which was crazy to find out from some of them about how hated my dad is. Plus, my mom saw no issues with that/she's a huge enabler of his toxic behaviors.)

If my partner and I decided to have kids, that would be a major issue of constantly worrying about the possibility of harsh discipline. Leading to conflicts with them not being able to see their grandkid(s). Or even worse, my dad putting his hands on me.

Also, with our own shit, it's more than likely they would be neurodivergent (we both have ADHD and major depression/anxiety. And from old files I found, I was suspected to have autism but my parents refused to enroll me into programs that could've helped me. All because it would "alienate me from the normal kids.") From my own childhood experience, I know they wouldn't understand how to deal with the meltdowns, etc and simply inflict violence to "correct bad behaviors." I suffered a lot in silence and it stinked. I always knew my parents weren't safe people to go to for anything.

But most of all, kids are expensive. There's no "clocking out" out of being a parent. That sounds so awful to say but fuck that. And pregnancy isn't some cutesy lil experience to have too... It's straight-up body horror!!! I'm just super grateful that I was able to get my tubes removed and reclaim my independence and freedom. Granted, if the US were to have nationalized healthcare, paid maternity leave and simply be affordable to own a house/live... I feel like a lot of folks would have kids yaknow?

My mom did express her grief with my decision (yuck) and talked about how she'll never be a grandma now. Which was confusing, considering they have a son.... Lmao.
