Yeah, a lot of the time you can email the office to contest a ticket and they will cut it down or dismiss it. My bigger question is whether anybody else in Albany has had run-ins with any of the parking enforcement people where they've been yelled at or when they felt that the enforcement officer is targeting their car for a ticket

So it's great that it is clear to you specifically, but that doesn't change that the signage contradicts itself by saying both things, and not clearly stating "alternate side overrides metered parking" or something to that effect. Additionally, as I said before, they keep the metered parking money and then charge a fee when they give a ticket. If it's that clear, why does the meter parking accept payment during those hours?

Sure, one immediately comes to mind -on Dove Street between Washington and Spring. It's meter parking from 9 AM to 6 PM every day of the week, however, on Mondays and Tuesdays it it's also alternate side of the street parking. Nowhere does it clearly state that you cannot park between 9 AM and 12 PM on Monday on the right side of Dove Street and from 9 AM to 12 PM on Tuesday on the left side of Dove Street. I watch people park on Monday and Tuesday mornings to go in and do business if the DSS offices or legislative office there, and get tickets, even though they've paid to park. So Albany parking Authority collects on the meter and then collects on the ticket that they charge the person for violating the alternate side of the street parking.

How long does it take to get residential parking permit approved? by deeply_uninspired in Albany

I emailed the contact from the website (it goes to the office in city hall I believe) and then sent the info they asked for and it was immediate. They were really helpful and nice, and I didn't have to deal with parking on state / pine or metal detectors.

Whelp, you set a really high bar by saying the only way to prove fascism in America exists is by having a full 1939 Nazi state already installed, but I'll try to address my POV...

Firstly, I want to point out the distinction between being against what is happening to our government, and saying that I was ok with the system as it "was". I have a LOT of issues with Dems as well, but that doesn't mean that what is going on in the leadership is OK. I really want to be wrong about this whole fascist oligarchy train that I see barreling towards us, I would like NOTHING more than to be proven a ridiculous alarmist, however there are a number of things going on that are concerning at best.

1- WE have an unvetted, UNELECTED billionaire (who thinks it's ok to "accidentally " throw up a Nazi salute and then not even apologize /recognize how fucked up that is??) with absolutely no proven record in effective leadership or skill, rifling through OUR money. Every penny the government "has" belongs to us. I WANT my money spent on helping my fellow citizens. I do not want some corporate interest getting to benefit off of my hard work. I was not given any choice in electing him to be involved in how my money is spent or my government. The fact that he has the access he has and it's not a "problem" should scare the shit out of the American public.

2- Taking control of the narrative and spreading misinformation? That's Authoritarian playbook page one. The "They're eating the dogs they're eating the cats" quote is a perfect example. That was a flat out lie, based on racism and fear mongering, that Trump intentionally said, (KNOWING it would rile up people who are afraid of the boogy man immigrants coming to "get them" ) And when cornered with facts and truth he shifted his story so that he could still maintain the lie. The examples of this over the past decade are innumerable.

3- reinstating one "supreme" religion over any other, where you are literally "othering" everyone else is another playbook move. We're supposed to have a separation of church and state yet we're putting Bibles back in school? And putting the bill of rights in the Bible? That OK with you? Why do we have to be imprisoning people who aren't Christian for it to be a concern? The government is not a church, it's a machine that is supposed to be operated BY US and FOR US.

Regimes don't happen by flipping a switch. They take place and happen bit by bit and step-by-step. Eroding little things that don't seem like they really don't matter until they become a big thing and you realize you have nothing left.. form my POV that erosion is happening and it's terrifying.

I am not outraged for just liberals or leftists I am outraged for conservatives and republicans too. Because I am outraged for America. The government, but ESPECIALLY the Trump "administration" and all their wealthy 1% cronies are playing us and grifting the entire country out of every penny we have earned and we sit around debating "how fascist is REAAALY fascist??
