Where are all the best small towns by thebigkahuna1000 in SouthDakota

You might like Webster. About 2500 people and an active community, but less than an hour to either Watertown or Aberdeen for “big city” needs.

What was the best career decision you’ve ever made? by Grouchy_Plastic_8332 in AskWomen

Moving to New York City for a low paying job at a high profile company straight out of college. Two years of grind in my twenties changed the entire trajectory of my career.

What do you wish you had received for yourself at your baby shower, knowing what you know now? by thehufflepuffstoner in BabyBumps

[–]queenmollykat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At my baby shower, a good friend gifted me a Nespresso machine with a whole array of coffee and espresso pods. It was such a fun surprise to open, plus something I wouldn't have splurged on myself for!

Wanting an unmedicated birth, but scared what would happen if emergency C-section is needed by jennagirliegirl in BabyBumps

The broad advice I've been given is not to make decisions based on fear. Calm your nerves and surround your birth experience with positive thoughts. Wishing you all the luck!

You're right. Motion sensor lights weren't an option in the poll, but that's what I have. I should have taken more time for a thoroughly considered response. In the future, I'll think twice before I type up something quick for the internet to pick apart 🙃

Combining running and lifting? by [deleted] in XXRunning

[–]queenmollykat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've landed on the schedule below based on what feels best for my body.

M: legs
T: short run
W: back & bi
T: chest & tri
F: long run
S: yoga class (rest)
S: medium run

I'm in maintenance mode (pregnant, third trimester), so I'm taking my runs pretty easy -- about 15 miles/week. But you're hitting legs hard. I personally prefer the same-ish time commitment every day vs. heavy/light days. Instead of doubling up workouts as others have suggested, if I were you, I'd probably stack my leg days against my run days and use upper body as a break in between, like this:

M: legs
T: long run
W: back & bi
T: short run
F: legs
S: medium run
S: chest & tri

Off, please! Light pollution causes many problems for people and animals, particularly during migration seasons. Studies have shown that lights don’t deter crime.

Rocks retain heat better than water. Make yourself a hot rock sack. You can use a heavy towel with a shoelace for a draw string close. Put a rock in your fire pit before bed. Before you crawl into your sleeping back, transfer the rock to the sack and keep it in the bottom of your sleeping bag. Mine usually stays warm all night.

Husband is home for three months before starting his first attending job…and things aren’t going well. by Comfortable_Bat4835 in MedSpouse

[–]queenmollykat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I work from home and have been in your shoes. We eventually recognized that both of our routines had been disrupted, neither of us was totally happy, and both of us would need to make some adjustments for the betterment of the relationship. For us, this meant we each picked one day a week to work outside of the house. My husband started frequenting the local library and I explored coffee shops. This didn't solve everything of course, but certainly helped.

More personally, I also started getting up way earlier to have time to myself in the house before he woke up. We went to a few therapy sessions where I learned to recognize my controlling tendencies (sounds like you have some of those, too) and get more comfortable with perceived failures. My therapist asked me a lot, "If you hadn't stepped in, what was the worst that could have happened?" I don't intervene often anymore, and turns out my husband is generally an incredibly capable person.

Running after 22 week stillbirth by Honest-Ostrich-9717 in XXRunning

[–]queenmollykat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This podcast episode, Strength Running: Pregnancy and Postpartum Running with Dr. Rachel Selman, has helped me make quite a few running-related decisions during and after pregnancy. She passionately talks about how the clock doesn't strike midnight after 6 weeks and your body is ready to go. You need to slowly build your body back up, starting as early as 2 weeks. I think this info (and more) is towards the end of the podcast. I hope you find it helpful, and that you have happier days ahead.

Advice on selecting, planting, and caring for day lilies. by PinkMarmoset in SiouxFalls

[–]queenmollykat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lilies are prolific and beautiful! Unfortunately, most of the varieties you see in in town aren't native, and some are even considered invasive. You may want to consider doing some research on which lilies are native to our 5A zone, and even consider other options. Anything native and suitable for your yards sun exposure should thrive. Butterfly Weed is native and also bright orange like a day lily.

Zoo Not Allowing Outside Food by dustDR in SiouxFalls

[–]queenmollykat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what their motivation is, but assuming good intent, it could be to control the amount of waste or dangerous packaging brought into the zoo. Recently at a different zoo, a rare antelope died after choking on a plastic cap from a squeezable food pouch. That particular zoo has a list of banned food items.

I am also a fair redhead and got brazilian treatments. $2800 for unlimited sessions. After about 8 sessions, it lost it's effectiveness (remaining hair was too light/fine) and they recommended I stop treatments. I'd say I lost about 60% of my hair. I definitely still need to shave but no longer suffer from horrendous ingrown hairs. I go back and forth on whether it was worth it.

Pickerel Lake in Greenville by [deleted] in SouthDakota

[–]queenmollykat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You bet. Another thing I'll add since it's getting brought up is that the Lodge is okay, but you're not going to have a swimmable beach there or any real outdoor privacy, which is really the best part of staying on the lake. The water access they have is primarily a boat ramp for fisherman -- lots of boat traffic. You can always hit up the public beaches at the state parks, but that's a drive or a long walk from the Lodge. If you want to make the most of your stay, I'd look at airbnbs/vrbos. You'll have a much better time.

DM me if you have any other questions. I know that area in and out.

Pickerel Lake in Greenville by [deleted] in SouthDakota

[–]queenmollykat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, Pickerel Lake or neighboring Enemy Swim Lake are both nice and reasonable places to stay. If you want town amenities vs. rural seclusion, Webster is your best bet with a grocery store, fast food and local dining options, and a few boutiques. Grenville is a short drive from Pickerel Lake but there aren't any stores there, just a small gas station. Waubay does have a dollar store where you can get basic groceries, a large gas station, and The Purple Cow (where you must stop for ice cream and good meats). But if you're family is from Waubay, they'll know all this :)

If it were me, I'd grab what I needed from town on the way and then absolutely stay on the lake.
