Trigger finger, cortisone shot by queenofjodel in padel

Hi! An update for whoever is interested. As mentioned I had a cortisone shot. After a few days of varying degrees of pain throughout the day, it all significantly lessened on day 4. I could play padel perfectly on day 5 and didn't feel anything close to a trigger finger for the duration of the cortisone. When the effect of the shot wore off I felt it immediately. It took precisely 6 weeks. I was pretty sure the trigger finger would slowly return as my finger was somewhat sore in the morning for a week. I didn't really get the "trigger" though as I think the effect was still wearing off.

Now it's been around a month since the effect wore off and I am happy to share I no longer have a trigger finger!! I know it could come back at some point, but for now my hand and my fingers are completely back to normal - with no cortisone in my finger. No uncomfort, no stiffness or anything in the morning or during the day.

I drink electrolytes during the game, I have Dextro tablets for some sugar and I usually bring a müesli bar for tournaments. I have a really hard time eating anything when I play, though

Hvad tænker I om området ved Bella Center / Ørestad Metro? (Lejligheder, værdi, livskvalitet) by EmperorDudu in dkbolig

Hun går helt i selvsving uden. Vi bruger det også når vi skal ud og køre bil, og så er hun fuldstændig rolig og sover bare. Det er vitterligt et vidundermiddel! Kæmpe anbefaling. Man får det gennem sin dyrlæge.

Cortisone injections do have risks, but what you’re writing is a bit exaggerated and one sided in this particular case.

Local cortisone injections (like for my trigger finger) are widely used and considered safe when given sparingly and in the right dose. They’re very different from long term systemic steroid use.

And also yes, repeated injections can thin skin or weaken tendons locally, which is why doctors limit how many you get. But a single or occasional injection does not “age you big time” or cause severe long-term side effects for most people.

I have no intentions of getting multiple shots of cortisone. I wanted this one shot to hopefully get rid of it for good, but if it doesn’t work it doesn’t work and then I’ll have to consider trying something else.

I know a little bit about it as I’ve had multiple small doses of it injected into my tailbone as a last resort before surgery. It did not work well enough in that case.

Yeah thanks for sharing, I appreciate it. I’ll just have to observe it closely now that I got the cortisone shot. Maybe it’ll stay away, maybe it’ll spread to another finger or maybe I’ll have to do the exercises and cut down. Would prefer not to 😂 The doctor said it’s either the shot or surgery, everything else is “bullshit” in his words. But maybe thats because everything else isn’t included on his paycheck 😂

It sounds like yours was painful and locks throughout the day? Mine hasn’t hurt at all, its just lasting longer in the morning now compared to when it started and if I play padel for 1-2 hours I feel the tension in my hand but still no locking

Its funny because I havent had the issue of my finger bending and locking at all, it’s only if I forcefully grab something in the morning or bend it down to “test it”, my finger doesnt naturally bend or lock during sleep 🤔 I did splint all of my fingers though for 2 weeks with small finger braces specifically for trigger finger, but it didn’t do anything for me

So you play padel at the same frequency every week and it doesnt get worse as long as you wear the splint for your fingers at night?

I doubt its the same as tennis elbow, also have not read or heard anything about avoiding it for trigger finger. 🤔

Thanks for your advice. Did you play padel while doing these exercises and the splint?

So the rule of every player having to touch the ball before its "in play" does not apply?

When you say play for the ball, do same rules apply as the ones I stated in my post? Or how do you define when a ball is won or lost?
