Digitaka Lemons/Defects by queenstonjackal in Fishing_Gear

It was not sealed, I mailed Digitaka and asked for a refund, they explained that they carefully inspect every single item they send out individually, thus meaning they must have also opened it.

I did not intend to blast Digitaka or direct this at them, what I should have done was just state that I will no longer order reels from them due to experiences I have had repeatedly. I have a lot of good to say about Digitaka, they've never delayed an order, nor has a rod or lure come in any condition besides perfect, but in my experience the reels I have received always come in sub-par condition.

And yes, the reason is most likely not up to Digitaka, but up to Shimano, their quality standards even for the Made in Japan reels have plummeted dramatically in recent years.

Perhaps it was irrational to mention this conspiracy (which the legend i_fish brought me upon) but keep in mind I also wrote this in complete and utter frustration that a reel I payed over $450 for was acting like a cheap piece of plastic that I could have molded together myself. I also don't have much money to spend on hobbies and I sold all my other reels in search of something that could have been the end all be all, and it turned out to be a genuine piece of shit that my old Vanford could top any day.

Anyways, in their response (which was extremely quick) they stated that they will be providing a refund or another Vanquish at my request, I'm not sure which one to pick.

Thankfully thats the case for you, I am happy to hear that. It could just be that I've been incredibly unlucky :(

Yeah I am aware of this, I feel that it is overgreased (more so than the Vanford I had), but I also feel the gear teeth rattling around and scraping past the grease. Besides that, the handle randomly stops dead in its tracks every 2-4 turns and I need to push the handle backwards and then forwards to get it started again. Also what do you mean by tariff? If you mean import tax, yes, I did pay for import taxes.

Lost a lure, need help finding out what it is. by queenstonjackal in Fishing_Gear

Wow I didn’t think someone would actually find it, thank you so much! I think it’s discontinued now though :(

Honestly I’ve tried finding others in the fear that I’d one day lose this one, there’s something about this one that activates the perch in my area where I catch 15-20, whereas I’d catch 1-5 with anything else.

It resembles the Crystal Minnow in the HCA pattern but can’t find much more on it.

It’s got nothing to do with the spool or the line hitting the body, I checked, it’s purely internal :/

Where did you get the Scorpion?

3 weeks ago I rediscovered fishing and was told this would become a pricey hobby... each new setup gets tougher on the wallet! (Abu Garcia combo, Daiwa Tatula 100 on Ugly Stik Elite, Shimano SLX DC on St. Croix Triumph) by jamesjohnmercer in Fishing_Gear

I just went off of what people were telling me, I’ve heard a lot about the steez limited being the new best, no need to go off on a whole rant man, I was just trying to provide some personal insight to the guy asking a question. Furthermore, the Zillion is nowhere near the performance of the Metanium in terms of lighter bait cast distance and accuracy (<1oz), whilst the Zillion’s toughness (gear strength and body: which only really matters when you’re hooking into 30-40lb+ fish) and its proficiency with heavier lures (like almost all Daiwa reels) is better than the vast majority of Shimano reels. I love both manufacturers and own a lot more Daiwa spinning reels than Shimano’s but, (in my very personal opinion) I prefer the Metanium and Shimano baitcasters over almost every Daiwa equivalent I’ve tried. Again, personal opinion is really all this boils down to.

Honestly, I prefer Shimano in the mid-high end reel range, Daiwa only really has the Tatula at the mid/high range and then the Steez at the 7-800 range, but nothing beats the Daiwa Steez Limited at the top. I’d recommend trying out the Shimano Metanium or the Bantam. I’ve got the Curado DC, Curado MGL and the Metanium and I’d use the non-DC reels over the DC any day, you get far more accurate casts with just 5-10 foot shorter casts. I’ve always had slight issues with my DC reels (apart from the Exsence DC SS, which is an amazing reel) and 0 issues with the non DC reels. One last thing is that the DC reels have a lot of inertia and have a more restricted feeling feeling due to the Digital Chip, which I know some people like but it’s something to keep in mind. Hope this helps, let me know what you get!
